Saving compressed SVG (SVGZ)

In addition to the already small .SVG file format defined in the W3C specification, Adobe® Illustrator® 10 provides the option of saving compressed SVG (with file extension SVGZ), which applies industry-standard, nonproprietary "gzip" compression (an open-source variant of Zip compression) to SVG files. Compressed SVG files are typically 50 to 80 percent smaller than SVG files and are automatically decompressed by the Adobe SVG Viewer with no noticeable delay to the user.
