howdy. this is a dev blog for vapor trails, a 2d metroidvania.

Vapor Trails is an in-development metroidvania and about 1/3 done. You can play it in your browser, for free, via the links below:

Itโ€™s reached about 250,000 people so far, is in the top ten highest-rated Metroidvanias on itch, and has earned me about 300 dollars and 69 cents.

when i was in middle school, during the covid pandemic, i found this game. although simple it changed my life completely. the amazing aesthetic and unique gameplay was revolutionary to my middle school self. to this day it holds nostalgic value. its also still hella fun to play. i need this to be finished ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™ i need to know about the soul

yo first of all, sorry to be rude in your first ask, I get a lot of scam messages that open with stuff like "can you follow me back so I can DM you phishing links without making them public so tumblr autobans me"

second of all, thank you, this is a really heartwarming message. i'm glad you liked it so much and that you kinda understood the vision I was going for! i've sadly put development on a long-term hold because the scope was huge and I moved out of my parents' house so I have way less free time, but I'd like to revisit it someday if possible. it'll just be a bit less ambitious. in the meantime I made a driving game called NEODRIVE (also on my itch.io page) and I'm working on a secret new 2D project with an animator friend of mine.

also i can't follow you back cause this is a side blog of my main blog, but you can reply in the comments if that's easier than sending more asks

can you follow me back so i may regale you with my tale? i absolutely adore your game and have a lot to say about about it

Is Vapor trails still in development or has it been cancelled, i love Vapor trails i first played it on Kbh games

Also, I'm not affiliated with KBH games. They took VT and reuploaded it without asking or crediting me. Not your fault, but it was probably an old build. Check the itch.io page because it might have been updated there after you played it on KBH.

they should invent a volume slider where 0% is silent and 100% is the maximum but 25% volume is 25%, 50% volume is 50%, and 75% is 75%. nobody's done that yet.

I spent multiple evenings trying to make a good volume slider for a video game, and I finally settled on this formula:

game_volume = log10(v ร— 5) ร— 20

where v is the value of the slider, a decimal from 0-1. I started the slider at 0.5 by default, which maps to 0.8ish on the actual volume scale. that way people can maximize it to actually amplify game sounds (or separately amplify ui/environment/music sounds)

Disgusting, rats running about outside the blog. Inside it was dirty and horrible atmosphere, everyone is doing drugs of some sort. Would not recommend, spent 2 minutes scrolling immediately left. Mutuals also unpleasant.

really sad a new ice age movie wasn't coming out this summer because we could've had a horrible tweet from some official ice age twitter account declaring it "scrat summer" and potentially turning people off the whole thing. or not. i frequently hit my shin or toes on the really sharp bedframe a lot despite knowing it's there and i worry it's because i no longer have brain elasticity

Played the steam demo and loved it!!

The lake challenge really scratched an itch that hadn't been scratched since I played Celeste. The movement is soo fluid and fun.

Would it be possible to add a UI scale option for the full release? I played on steam deck and it ran flawlessly, but the UI was so teeny-tiny.

Your devlog stuff is a big inspiration to me, keep it up!!!

Oh wow, glad to know it runs on the Steam deck! And yes thanks for the feedback, I'll add it to the feature list. I also want to add an option for non-pixel text.
