The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife (透明男と人間女~そのうち夫婦になるふたり~, Tōmei Otoko to Ningen Onna: Sonouchi Fūfu ni Naru Futari) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Iwatobineko. It originally began as a webcomic published on the author's Twitter account in March 2021. It was later acquired by Futabasha who began serializing it on the Pixiv Comic website under their Web Action brand in September that year. An anime television series adaptation produced by Project No.9 premiered in January 2026.
In a world where humans and many sorts of demihumans co-exist, Shizuka Yakou works at the detective agency of Akira Tounome, an invisible man. Shizuka is blind yet she can always know where Tounome is with her refined senses. He falls in love with her and soon starts dating her with the intention of marrying her one day.
Tropes:
- Adaptation Expansion: The anime expands more scenes, such as Jarashi's fights against the gangsters and Akira's backstory on his previous relationship.
- Bad Powers, Good People: Invisible people in this story are stigmatized due to history of them being used as spies, thieves, and other such jobs that make use of their Invisibility. Akira Tounome has a license to be able to use his ability to become fully invisible because he's a detective so he is a law abiding citizen by trade. But as seen when a female Invisible person is a client, people don't fully trust Invisible people.
- Beta Couple: Light and Karma are a White Elf and Dark Elf married couple that are supporting characters outside of the Tounome Detective Agency with occasional situations which bring them to Akira and Shizuka.
- Blind and the Beast: The premise of the series is about an Invisible man and a blind woman falling in love.
- Busman's Holiday: Tounome and Shizuka are supposed to relax at the hot springs but they encounter a female crab innkeeper who is complaining that her customers are leaving because they claimed that her inn is haunted. The innkeeper hires Tounome and Shizuka on the spot after she learns that they're investigators. At first, Tounome is reluctant to accept her offer, but the innkeeper offers him a deal that her inn has a private open-air bath if he accepts the job. Eventually, Tounome accepts it because Shizuka is also interested in the private open-air bath.
- Camping Episode: Tounome, Shizuka and their coworkers go on a camping trip together in episode 4.
- Caught in the Rain: In one chapter, Tounome and Shizuka get wet in the rain on their way to work. Since both are too embarrassed to remove their wet clothes, they get blankets and cuddle together.
- Cosplay Café: In an undercover mission, Luna Jarashi is forced to dress like a maid at a cosplay café featuring beast girls.
- "Do It Yourself" Theme Tune: The ending theme song is performed by Kaori Ishihara who voices the character Light.
- Fantastic Racism: Even though various creatures are living among humans, there is still prejudice. For example, one of the clients is an invisible woman who was falsely accused of stealing money from the company safe. Tounome even admits that other species distrust his people because their ability to be invisible can be seen as a means to commit crimes, given that the common profession that invisible people have in the past is espionage.
- Fantasy Kitchen Sink: The setting has invisible people, Beast Men, elves, demons and aliens.
- First Kiss: Akira gives Shizuka her first kiss during their camping trip, much to Shizuka's bewilderment.
- Gender-Equal Ensemble: The Tounome Detective Agency has two male workers (Akira Tounome and Daichi Kikira) and two females (Shizuka Yakou and Luna Jarashi).
- High-School Sweethearts: Daichi and Kousuke have been dating since they were high school students.
- Hot Springs Episode: In episode 9, Akira and Shizuka go on a day trip to the hot springs; however, it becomes a Busman's Holiday for them when the lady crab innkeeper requests them to investigate whether her inn is haunted or not.
- Interspecies Romance:
- Tounome the invisible man is dating Shizuka, a human woman.
- There's a human florist who is married to an Oni. They have a Half-Human Hybrid child.
- The Klan: Subverted. When Karma and Light report strange people in white robes loitering around their tea shop, they think it's people meaning harm on them. But it was actually Light's father and their pharmaceutical company since Light wasn't checking in with him
- Lap Pillow: Shizuka gives Tounome a lap pillow in episode 7.
- Moment Killer:
- When alone in the office, Tounome tries to kiss Shizuka, but they're interrupted when Jarashi enters the room.
- Tounome flirts with a sick Shizuka while nursing her, but it turns into a very awkward moment when Shizuka's mother walks in on them.
- Tounome and Shizuka are in the middle of making out in the office, only to be interrupted by a human-oni family who wanted to thank Tounome for rescuing their son in a kidnapping case.
- Mutually Exclusive Magic: White elves specialize in blessings and dark elves cast curses. Together, they cancel each other out. When Light gets pregnant with Karma's child, she has to spend several months away from her husband and return to her elf village so her fellow white elves perform blessing rituals for a safe birth.
- Office Romance: Shizuka works as a secretary at Tounome's detective agency. They start dating soon after they meet, but still try to keep things professional at their workplace.
- Queer Establishing Moment: Tounome and Shizuka's coworker Daichi Kikira is revealed to be gay and in a relationship with the lawyer Kousuke Madaraito.
- Romantic Spoonfeeding: Tounome feeds porridge to Shizuka when she's sick
- Sexy Soaked Shirt: Tounome's shirt gets wet when fishing at the river and Jarashi notices Tounome's muscular figure underneath his soaked shirt.
- Sick Episode: Tounome takes care of Shizuka when she gets sick in Episode 3.
- Significant Name Shift: Akira and Shizuka called each other by their last names. But once they started dating, they began calling each other by their first names.
