After high-schooler Emily dies saving her friend from an oncoming bus, she jumps at the chance to be brought back to life as a Guardian Tenshi so she can pick up where she left off. But she quickly discovers that she signed up for more than she was expecting...
She is joined by Shinko, the Guardian Tenshi previously responsible for her.
My My Tenshi Life is created by T.R. Racki and LuMaGa (who also made Four Leaf) and published by GoldenPlume on Tapas Media here
and Webtoon here
.
My My Tenshi Life contains examples of the following:
- Agent Scully: In her character intro page, Violet repeatedly points out that Tenshi do not exist. After Shinko revealed herself to Violet and Emily when they were kids, pretending to be their imaginary friend, Violet was also the first of the two to doubt her existence.
- All There in the Manual: Shinko's backstory can be found in Paper Falcons
, an unfinished 30 Day Writing Challenge submission in which she appears as a Japanese fighter pilot during WWII. - Bland-Name Product: Emily uses the social media platform Chirper and search engine Zoogle. Later on, she and Shinko also visit a restaurant called Subvoy, with a logo obviously styled after Subway.
- First-Episode Resurrection: Where all of the Tenshi come from, including Emily.
- First-Episode Twist: Emily's death and subsequent resurrection.
- Heroic BSoD: After Emily discovers that 3 years have passed since her death, she starts panicking. Her first instinct to find her mother for emotional support only makes it even worse as she doesn't even recognize Emily. This makes Emily freeze and start spiraling, not doing anything until she's snapped out of it when Petra calls her.
- The Masquerade: Humans can't perceive the forces of Chaos, or Tenshi wings, and any Tenshi who tries to contact someone that they knew in life will be replaced in any photos and memories of them with a new person who shares their face so as not to reveal that they came Back from the Dead.
- One-Steve Limit: Averted. After Petra looks up Emily's name in the book of reservations, she mentions there are four million, nine hundred fifteen thousand, seven hundred and thirteen other people with that name, but is still sure she found the right Emily.
- Power Gives You Wings: Emily doesn't get her wings until she's a tenshi.
- Ret-Gone: Downplayed. Because people coming back from the dead is supposed to be impossible, Emily is not allowed to make contact with people who previously knew her. To this end, Emily was replaced with Amy, someone who had her exact life but a different name and face, to stop her from doing so anyway.
- Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: While everyone else only remembers Amy, the replacement Emily, Petra, Shinko, and Emily herself still remember who she really was.
- Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: Violet walks into the street trying to keep Emily's phone away from her, and Emily dives into the street to save her from an oncoming bus. Violet likely wouldn't have taken her phone had she not been rattled by Shinko's warning to be "extra careful".
- Taking the Bullet: Emily saving Violet from an oncoming bus.
