• Lethal Chef: "Who put skulls in my soup bowl again!"

• The Man in the Mirror Talks Back: L's reflection in his tea tries to convince him that he should go on a murderous rampage and steal doughnuts.
• Married to the Job: Light.
  Ryuk: "So you're going to spend all your time writing in the Death Note instead of having any kind of social life."
• Morally Ambiguous Doctorate: Dr Schorks, damn man never washes his hands!
• Motor Mouth: Ryuk at the end of episode three.

  Man 1: This is ridiculous. Let's let L solve the case.
  Man 2: Poor guy thinks the alphabet will solve the case.
• Orphaned Series: Due to a computer that is "getting shittier by the second" HikariPop has been unable to make and edit new videos since August 2011.
• Phrase Catcher: Light. "Why you gotta be a nerd?"
• Pretty Boy: "Nice hair but mine's prettier."
  Light: "How could I lose a beauty contest to Leonardo DiCaprio. WHATAREYOULOOKINGATYOUFUCKINGSHINIGAMI?!"
• Pretty Fly for a White Guy: Watari speaks like a stereotypical black man... Mother'fo.
• Pun: "A serial rapist is on the loose and he's not just raping cereal anymore."
• Shameless Self-Promoter:
  Ryuk: I saw you [Light], you made that website yourself!
• Shout-Out: to Holes, The Exorcist, Desperate Housewives, Mission: Impossible (1996), and Spider-Man. The exclamation mark sound from Metal Gear is also used. And tons more here: [1]
• Straight Gay: Light (he's bisexual). After Ryuk tells him he's being stalked he first asked if it was his ex-boyfriend. He still refers to Ryuk as a "fag" though.
• Textbook Humor: "If one guy gives you a beer, okay and you’ve already had two beers then what are the odds you'll get drunk off your ass?"
• Tokyo Is the Center of the Universe: Justified, L says Kira has to be in Japan because of their hairstyles and giant robots.
• Too Dumb to Live: Raye lampshades and points out every single hole in his plan in incredible detail. Still does everything wrong though.
• Totally Radical: "Hamsters are pimpin'."
• With Cat Like Tread: Raye Penber stalks Light while loudly humming the Mission: Impossible theme.
• Yaoi Fangirl: A group of them are discussing fanfiction in the first episode.
• You Are Not Alone:
  Ryuk: Death Gods are lazy. We just kill people so we don't die! We don't serve any purpose!
  Light: Ahh. I think you Shinigami are very special, Ryuk.
  Ryuk: Really?
  Light: Yeah. Too bad you guys are all ugly as fuck.
• Your Mom:
  Mello: (to somebody else) "When are you gonna die?!"
  Near: "Your mum."
