Godzilla: Just Pray is an Analog Horror series based on the Godzilla franchise. It is created by Toolzilla
.
It can be watched here
, with a remaster announced to be in the works.
Godzilla: Just Pray contains examples of:
- Adaptational Abomination: The kaiju depicted here are far more bizarre, grotesque, and alien in nature. Indeed, they could actually belong to a Cosmic Horror Story.
- Godzilla's overall structure looks rotten and decayed, with multiple rows of sharp teeth and only one functional eye.
- Ghidorah's base is still a dragon, but he has multiple eyes all over its body, mainly on the heads.
- Angelic Abomination: Ghidorah is depicted as an angel with the appearance of a dragon. The Priestess explains that Ghidorah is the manifestation of the Three Archangels, Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael.
- The Bad Guy Wins: The first battle between Godzilla and Ghidorah ends with the three-headed dragon countering Godzilla's atomic breath with a black hole before impaling him with three light spears, forcing him into dormancy. To add insult to injury, the broadcast after the battle gets hijacked at the end to compel people into worshipping the dragon.
- Body Horror: In addition to the mutations from those unlucky enough to come into contact with Godzilla's cells, Godzilla himself is far more grotesque in appearance, with his body barely holding itself together in a constant state of decay and regeneration from the sheer amount of radiation it emits.
- Brown Note Being: Anything involving Godzilla often leads to massive amounts of Body Horror from the sheer radioactivity of his cells causing extreme mutations in those who run into him.
- Composite Character:
- Toolzilla explains that his version of Godzilla takes elements from the Godzillas from Shin Godzilla and Godzilla Minus One; combining the former's nature as a Tragic Monster who is constantly in pain for its continued existence with the latter's pure rage against the world for creating it just to suffer.
- This Ghidorah is based on the versions of the character from Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack! and Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, gaining Adaptational Heroism (or so it seems) and loyal followers who pray to him.
- Cult: The Church of Ghidorah are religious fanatics who believe Ghidorah is an angel sent down to smite Godzilla.
- Dragons Are Divine: With a heavy dosage of Angelic Abomination and Draconic Abomination. Ghidorah is portrayed as a 3-headed and 2-tailed dragon like his usual incarnations, but instead of being portrayed as the Satanic Archetype, he's portrayed as a divine messenger of God whose heads represent his Archangels.
- The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: The CODC warns viewers, in-universe and out, to not heed Ghidorah's calls, then the video abruptly shows messages, seemingly from Ghidorah himself, saying to turn to his call and become part of him.
- Human Sacrifice: How Ghidorah is summoned: All the followers of the Church of Ghidorah come together at an ominous cross, then spontaneously explode to create a blood cloud that allows the golden dragon to manifest into the world.
- Mind Control: Ghidorah seemingly has some form of this, being able to extend his influence from whatever plane he resides in onto hapless humans. He also seems to be able to transmit his power through televisions and other electronic devices.
- Mood Dissonance:
- Episode 4 features gentle, almost triumphant hymnal music even as the Church of Ghidorah cultists are graphically turned into a cloud of blood for Ghidorah to create a physical body with.
- Episode 7 has the Ode to Joy playing in the background all while Ghidorah uses the public broadcast to brainwash people into serving it after its battle with Godzilla.
- Outliving One's Offspring: The Priestess had a son who lost his life from one of Godzilla's attacks. Grieving over her child and rage against Godzilla lead her to become the overzealous minister who proclaims Ghidorah's arrival.
- "Ray of Hope" Ending: After Ghidorah hijacks the public broadcast a second announcement appears, with a few quiet notes that imply the existence of Mothra.
- Religious Horror: Much of the Biblical symbolism is utilized to add to the unnerving nature of Ghidorah and Godzilla, especially with the fanaticism shown by the Church of Ghidorah in worshipping and eventually summoning the angelic dragon. toolzilla6829
himself states that much of the Biblical symbolism in the story is heavily inspired by misinterpretations of scripture commonly found in conspiracy theories and apocalypse cults, all of which serve to show how humans can twist faith and meaning to serve their own delusions amidst the chaos caused by the kaiju wreaking havoc on Earth. - Satan: The Priestess claims that Godzilla is the actual Satan from the Bible, the Red Dragon from the Book of Revelation.
- Sinister Minister: The Priestess of the Church of Ghidorah starts off polite and amicable, but as the CODC's interview with her continues, she starts to become increasingly unhinged as she enters a maddened rant about how the world will suffer the apocalypse.
- Start of Darkness: Episode Six features the Priestess's slow descent into madness that lead her to be indoctrinated by Ghidorah.
- Tears of Blood: Artwork of Godzilla frequently shows his one good eye having blood flowing out of it, indicating the pain he is in.
