Top Gear (known as Top Racer in Japan and the QU Byte remaster for all regions) is a racing game released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It was created and programmed by Gremlin Interactive (formerly Gremlin Graphics) of British origin and published by Kemco of Japanese origin.
It's a racing game meant to be a Spiritual Successor to the creator's own Lotus Challenge series, only featuring unbranded cars instead of the titular Lotus.
It has a sequel, Top Gear 2 in 1993. The game forgoes the selection of four different cars to only have one car with different colors and upgradeable specifications. The sequel has a Sega Genesis version and Amiga version instead of the SNES-only first game (until the remaster)
In 1994, another sequel Top Gear 3000 was released.
In 2024, the three games are remastered for modern systems as Top Racer Collection by QU Byte Interactive. It also features a "brand-new" game, Top Racer Crossroads, which is actually a re-skin of the first game but featuring cars from its Spiritual Successor, Horizon Chase
In 2025, a new Custom DLC is announced, allowing players to customize the appearance and performance of the remastered first game's cars.
See also Horizon Chase, made by fans of this game (and thus has a lot of gameplay similarities) and in a later update, features the remix of the first game's theme.
Unrelated to the BBC show. To the point that the remaster uses the Top Racer name.
