Blastris A is similar to Tetris except the blocks are shown going from the left to the right as they move and the player must blast off pieces of the block clusters before they reach their stop so they can make lines that break apart. Blastris B's blocks of jelly fall from the top and is similar to Puyo Puyo and Columns where the player must shoot blocks in order to have them match same color lines and eliminate them. Mole Patrol is different from the first two Blastris games in that it plays more like a whack a mole game, except you shoot Blue Molians instead of whacking moles and each round starts by a lineup of Blue Molians who have a number indicated by their flag that you must shoot in order to finish the stage. Avoid shooting red ones or the speed of the blue ones will increase and make it harder to shoot them all in time to meet the quota.
The LazerBlazer games consist of Intercept, then Engage, and lastly Confront. Intercept, the A-type game, involves the player shooting down dozens of missiles launched by an enemy army with just the fewest amount of possible shots. There's a single campaign and there's a two=player versus mode where two players duke it out. If the player fails to prevent five of the missiles from passing the screen, the game ends. Sometimes in both modes, you find yourself having to save Nintendo's mascot Mario from a pursuing Bowser. In the Type B mode called Engage, you not only blast out missiles that are incoming, you also have to shoot down the enemy's airplanes too as both move towards the player with the planes firing on the player. The player also has to mindful of not just their ammo, but also their fuel as well. Once a level is complete, the player's fuel is restored for the next mission. In the C-Type mode called Confront, you find yourself blasting away enemy robots that try to shoot you. If the layer gets hit, it will weaken their shield. The player also must utilize a radar to fight the enemy with their finite ammo with the player needing to destroy the robots mandated by the level's quota.
The page has the following tropes in its Super Scope:
- Bottomless Fuel Tanks: The game "Engage" is where each level is timed by your ship's fuel. You have to shoot down all enemy ships before running out, and between levels a supply ship comes to fully refuel your tanks.
- The Cameo: Mario makes an appearance in LazerBlazer's Intercept mode being chased by Bowser in the sky where the player must shoot the latter to save Mario.
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: There are Blue Molians and Red Molians. The player has to just shoot the blue ones as shooting a red one will speed up its blue fellows.
- Critical Annoyance: At least five of the games had some kind of alarm: "Blastris A" and "Blastris B" would speed up the music when blocks are one line away from the left/top, all three "LazerBlazer" games had an alarm ringing when you're down to one HP (from a total of 5), and of those three, "Engage" added a second alarm for enemy missiles and a third one when your fuel is about to run out.
- Darker and Edgier: LazerBlazer, which is more military themed and action focused, and has you dealing with actual enemies.
- Destructible Projectiles: The game has the has the Engage mode, whose main objective is to destroy enemy ships, while keeping yourself alive by also shooting down the missiles targeting you.
- Distressed Dude: Sometimes in LazerBlazer's Intercept mode, Mario gets chased in the sky by Bowser and you must save him by blasting Bowser out of the sky.
- Endless Game: All three games in Blastris are endless.
- Falling Blocks: The game has Blastris A and Blastris B. The former was a Tetris-like where the player shot parts of the blocks off instead of rotating them, the latter was more of a Columns/Dr. Mario-like.
- Fighter-Launching Sequence: Once a game is selected in LazerBlazer, you take off in this matter.
- Lead the Target: This is the primary method of shooting down targets in "Intercept" and "Engage" in LazerBlazer.
- Lighter and Softer: Blastris, which is basically lighthearted puzzle fun and even includes a whack-a-mole style game called "Moon Patrol".
- Match-Three Game: Blastris B, one of the six games sold in this collection involves blasting out blocks in order for three matching ones to connect.
- Mission Control: You are greeted by these kinds of characters in LazerBlazer.
- Mooks, but No Bosses: Intercept, Engage, and Confront in LazerBlazer have a ton of enemies to shoot at, such as missiles and enemy fighters, and while all three games last 30 levels each, there is no boss at the end.
- Portmantitle: Blastris is an amalgamation between "blast" and Tetris.
- Results Screen: Each level of Mole Patrol ends by tallying the score of the player's efforts. The player earns points they've accumulated over the level, a stage clear bonus, and a loss of points for each Blue Molian and shot the player missed.
- Timed Mission: The player has a set amount of time to blast away all the blue molians in each level of Mole Patrol.
- Whack-a-Monster: "Mole Patrol" is a cross between whack-a-mole and shooting.
