Honkai: Star Rail (崩坏:星穹铁道, Bēnghuài: Xīngqíong Tiědào) is a Science Fantasy Space Opera Free-to-Play Turn-Based Combat Gacha Game developed by miHoYo. It is their fourth entry in the Honkai franchise after Zombiegal Kawaii (also known as Houkai Gakuen), Guns GirlZ (also known as Houkai Gakuen 2), and Honkai Impact 3rd. The game launched on April 26, 2023 on the PC (via their in-house client, later replaced with the HoYoPlay launcher on May 22, 2024, and Epic Games Store) and mobile devices (iOS and Android), with a PlayStation 5 version released on October 11 in the same year.

Players take on the role of the "Trailblazer," a humanoid vessel of a Stellaron, mysterious objects of immense power that can cause planet-wide devastation. They were awakened by Kafka, an interstellar outlaw, who instructs them to join the crew of the Astral Express, a spacefaring train created by Akivili, one of the Aeons, godlike entities embodying the fundamental concepts of the universe.

With no memories other than that of their name as well as that of Kafka herself, who also instructed them to make choices they will not regret, the Trailblazer joins the Express, whose crew are also collectively known as the "Nameless" and is comprised of March 7th, a perky girl with amnesia; Dan Heng, a quiet young man with a storied past; Himeko, a Motherly Scientist who repaired the Express in her youth; Welt Yang, a gentleman from another universe with control over gravity; and Pom-Pom, the mascot-like conductor. Together, the Nameless ride the Astral Express on its cosmos-spanning Star Rails, exploring worlds and making friends, as well as stopping by to deal with Stellarons, local issues, and secrets that could forever change the universe.

Similarly to its miHoYo predecessors Honkai Impact 3rd and the fantasy-oriented Genshin Impact, players can assemble up to four characters in a party, with their progression following such traditional RPG methods as upgrading their levels, skills, and equipment (i.e., Light Cones and Relics, which respectively perform similar functions as Weapons from the first two games and Stigmatas/Artifacts, which provide random status buffs and Set Bonuses). In combat, characters fall into certain roles, or Paths, as well as damage types that can cut through enemies' Toughness Gauges depending on their weaknesses; once it is emptied, they suffer Weakness Break, which deals additional damage, delays their next turn, and imposes certain debuffs related to the damage type. The game's gacha mechanics come in the form of the Warp system, from which players can get new and potentially rare characters (with duplicates converted into upgrades to their Eidolons, which provide additional buffs and effects) and Light Cones by spending Star Rail Passes or Star Rail Special Passes (which can be acquired slowly or bought by Stellar Jade, the in-game currency that can be either acquired through open-world exploration and completing game content or bought with real-world money).

Honkai: Star Rail is the first entry in the Honkai franchise with English and Korean dubs, along with the usual Chinese and Japanese ones.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Please refrain from adding leaked content on any and all sub-pages. While it's understandable that a sub-set of the Honkai: Star Rail community relies on leaks to prepare for upcoming characters and other future content, troping the leaks themselves is against TV Tropes policy and any entries involving leaks will be removed. May these tropes lead us starward.
