An index of tropes related to hunting, be it of beasts or men.

Tropes:

• Animal Nemesis: Getting or seeking revenge on an animal.
• Bear Trap: A sharp trap that's activated by stepping on it used to catch bears.
• Bounty Hunter: A private contractor rewarded by the authorities for killing or capturing fugitives wanted by the law.
• Bring It Back Alive: A character must capture a dangerous creature alive.
• Bringing Back Proof: For when you just bring back the evidence that it's dead.
• Carnival of Killers: Multiple mercenaries are hunting down the same target.
• Caught in a Snare: A pre-set trap of a net or rope captures someone and leaves them hanging in the air.
• Classical Hunter: Archetypical hunter character.
• Egomaniac Hunter: He hunts the rarest, most exotic, most dangerous game, just to prove that he can.
• Evil Poacher: A hunter who illegally kills or captures endangered wildlife.

• Hounds Hunt a Ham: A tracking or detection dog gets the scent of something other than the intended target.
• Human Head on the Wall: Someone mounts a human being's head on their wall as they would with an animal.
• The Hunter Becomes the Hunted: A top predator finally gets what's coming — from what could've been their victim.
• Hunter of Monsters: Someone who hunts and kills supernatural beings or creatures.

• Predation Is Natural: Hunting or eating other creatures (often sapient) isn't evil, just necessary.
• Predator Turned Protector: A predator that ends up defending the very prey they tried to hunt.
• Price on Their Head: Someone is willing to pay for the neutralization of a particular individual, taken dead or alive.
• Professional Killer: Similar to a bounty hunter but much more criminal and homicidal, these guys hunt down specific people to take their lives and earn a paycheck.
• Proud Hunter Race: A whole species or culture of hunters.
• Pursued Protagonist: The protagonist is introduced as they are being chased down by dangerous enemies.

• Roguish Poacher: A non-villainous poacher.
• Sapient Eat Sapient: Sapient creatures are hunted and eaten by other sapient creatures.
• Sapient Fur Trade: Sapient creatures are skinned for clothing.
• Scarily Competent Tracker: This character will find you based on many clues, no matter how illogical it seems.
• Serial-Killer Killer: A serial killer who preys on other killers.
• Snipe Hunt: Go find this non-existent thing.
• Super-Persistent Predator: A predatory animal that goes to unrealistic lengths to catch its prey.
• Suspiciously Stealthy Predator: A predatory animal that is ridiculously good at staying hidden and sneaking up on their prey.
• Thank Your Prey: When the hero shows respect towards an animal they've killed for giving them sustenance.
• They Have the Scent!: Dogs being used to track something by sniffing about and following the scent.
• Trophy Room: A room full of stuffed animals and/or other hunting trophies.
• Unicorn Hunting: Unicorns are sought after for their blood, hair, horns, and magic.
• Vigilante Man: They take the law into their own hands to hunt down (real or alleged) criminals.
• Villain Killer: A character who has a significant body count of villains behind them.
• The Wild Hunt: A hunt of the supernatural, where humans are usually the prey.
• Witch Hunt: A paranoid campaign to hunt down (real or imagined) enemies. Including (but not limited to) hunting for literal witches.
• Woodland Chase Scene: A person may flee into the woods during a hunt or be released into it for chase purposes.
