An Accusation Fic is a Fix Fic or Revenge Fic with a Fandom-Specific Plot. It is generally written directly because of Canon events.
Perhaps the actions of the lead characters demonstrated hypocrisy. Perhaps there was a moment in which the canon author sided with the hero but the Fan Fic writer didn't. Perhaps it's Values Dissonance between the author of the canon and the fanfic writers.
It doesn't matter where the original wrong lies — whether it's a misguided author or a Misaimed Fandom. The result will be a plot in which the canon events will be deconstructed, or the results of the events turn dark. A careless author will use Diabolus ex Machina for this; a clever one, using suitably flawed material, will make the consequences seem natural, or plausible if we've hit an Alternate Universe Fic, which it often will be if the canon is long-running and the fic is about an event set midway through the run.
There will be negative consequences for the characters who did the perceived wrong. There may or may not be negative consequences for innocent characters, depending on how cruel the author is feeling.
Naturally, this sort of fic will tend to be a Dark Fic.
If the canon events in question are required by the Anthropic Principle, then the fic is a Hate Fic; but not all Accusation Fics are Hate Fics. An Accusation Fic can overlap with a Betrayal Fic, but not all Betrayal Fics are Accusation Fics. A good rule of thumb is that if the fic you're reading spends most of its time taking the wrongdoing characters to task on how they messed up, then you're reading an Accusation Fic. If the fic spends most of its time on the character who was wronged, then you might have a Betrayal Fic.

- Infinite Stratos:
- IS: Unleashed Insanity
casts the actions of the Unwanted Harem in a negative light - particularly how prone they are to violently react against Ichika every time whenever he does anything they don't like, as well as Chifuyu not interacting with her brother outside of class. While they legitimately like/love Ichika, none of them had realized how much their actions were hurting him until he snaps, by which time it's too late: Ichika disowns Chifuyu and openly breaks off his friendship with them.
- IS: Unleashed Insanity
- Several Love Hina fanfics focus on punishing the cast for their self-centered attitudes and over-the-top abuse of Keitaro.
- An Alternate Keitaro Urashima has Granny Hina taken to task for enabling the girls' issues instead of helping them work through them, and for abandoning them so she can enjoy her world tour. The girls also have to face realistic consequences for their normal antics, such as Naru risking expulsion when she attacks Keitaro at their cram school, or Mokoto getting arrested for threatening him with her sword.
- For His Own Sake includes Keitaro and Mutsumi among those getting called out. Having spent three years trying to manage the Inn before giving up at the start of the fic, Keitaro is taken to task for being such an Extreme Doormat and enabling the girls' bad behavior, while Mutsumi keeps shipping Naru/Keitaro against their will.
- My Hero Academia:
- The entire reason Always (MHA) exists stems from WindsCarryFar being dissatisfied with Chapter 430 of the manga.
- The main premise of the fic stems from their not liking the implication Class 1-A grew distant from Izuku when they were supposed to be his True Companions.Clarification As a result, everyone aside from Ochako is taken to task for "ghosting" and showing Condescending Compassion to their former friend. Ochako is only spared due to her reaching out to Izuku first here, running with the implication they had a Relationship Upgrade in canon during the timeskip; even then, Ochako berates herself for not reaching out sooner.
- Chapter 2 serves as one to the concept of Izuku's classmates giving him a suit of Power Armor at the end of Chapter 430. When Katsuki informs her of the plan, Ochako accuses him and the rest of 1-A of implying the the only way Izuku can stand alongside them is with this "pity gift", whereas she doesn't believe Izuku needs a Quirk or armor to be a Hero. This is furthered by how Kirishima outright calls Izuku a liability in the field due to his Quirklessness, with both Monoma and Izuku calling him out for it.
- Always also implies that Monoma's accusations towards 1-A were more accurate for the majority than they care to admit — namely, that they really have let the "fame" from all the crises they've been involved in go to their heads and convince them that they're much better Heroes than they actually are. It's stated that most of the graduates from 1-A have difficulty working with others, convinced that they know better than older and more experienced Pros and those in adjacent fields like emergency medical staff.
- The Best Case Scenario, if you're being "realistic" sees Japan's Hero System and reputation on the global stage go down in flames, thanks in no small part to how their society had grown bogged down in Fantastic Ableism and Racism, caring more about flashy Quirks and how marketable their Pro Heroes were, encouraging people to go Pro in hopes of garnering fame and fortune rather than protecting people. All of the usual targets of this trope get called out in some fashion, from the hopelessly corrupt HPSC, Aiwaza's alternately sadistic and apathetic teaching methods, Bakugou being a bully, Sir Nighteye being a Control Freak, U.A.'s Head-in-the-Sand Management... and it all kicks off with All Might being Innocently Insensitive when he tells Izuku to give up on his dreams, and Izuku takes his advice to heart.
- Coyote: One of the various subplots of the story is Principal Nedzu taking Aizawa's "logical ruses" and dispensation to expel students to task after a huge chunk of Class 1-A tries to Rage Quit in the first day of school in response to how he handled the Quirk Appreciation Test (which, like canon, led to Deku wrecking his arm trying to not be expelled). Said chewing out eventually reveals that in this AUnote , the fact he kicked out an entire class in their first day at U.A. means he needlessly destroyed their future prospects as Heroesnote , and this led to some of them committing suicide - and Aizawa ends up showing no care about this fact, which pisses off Nedzu even more.
- My Hero Academia: Mechanical green:
- Downplayed. While the fic has the tag "Sasaki Mirai | Sir Nighteye Bashing", the matter itself is properly dealt with early into the fic. Namely, Mirai is taken to task for his canon motivations and behavior regarding One For All and, after getting both "The Reason You Suck" Speech and a punch to the face from Toshinori and the threat of castration from Inko, he ends up mellowing out and becomes one of many mentors to Izumi.
- Downplayed, but the canon reasoning for the students being involved in the Paranormal Liberation War, that the HPSC effectively instituted a draft and forced them to participate despite being students, is torn apart in the backstory for the Avalon War. Namely that they did something similar there, only it resulted in a lot of students dying, and it was pointed out that HPSC neglected using the much more experienced and fitting Japanese Special Defense Force for a literal war in favor of using Heroes they controlled, said actions being just one of the many nails in the HPSC's coffin and subsequent loss of power.
- The whole concept of a "Symbol of Peace" is regularly torn apart in terms of practicality and logistics long before any of the canon issues that came from it could occur. In addition to highlighting how, by making himself into the symbol, Toshinori unintentionally gave the public unrealistic expectations of him and made any potential successor likely to be viewed as a Sketchy Successor, his means of trying to have Izumi initially be his replacement just put a lot of pressure of her shoulders, made worse by her already fragile mental state. Even after he realized the latter though, his attempts at trying to make the students ready for his inevitable retirement, while well-intentioned, were beyond feasible, and just put a lot of pressure on students before they should even have to worry about that. Everyone who finds out about this such as Durandal, Kaina, and Shota, while understanding of Toshinori's reasoning, can all agree the idea of having any one person try to take his place is doomed to fail regardless of who they are, since they won't be another "All Might". Something that's proven right when Toshinori does retire to conserve his remaining time limit, with many viewing the new Number 1, Moe Kamiji/"Burnin", as a Sketchy Successor, Villain attacks highly increasing due to "All Might" no longer being around to deter them, and Izumi unintentionally suffering a lot more due to being caught in many of those Villain attacks and being scrutinized by the public as both a potential better choice for the new Number 1, and lambasted as a fake or inferior to "All Might".
- Chapter 67 of the redux partly serves as a callout of the entire "Plus Ultra" mentality in canon, by demonstrating how Toshinori's revised plan for the joint training camp just ended up exhausting and infuriating the students while damaging their trust in the staff. Kaina in particular lampoons the mindset by pointing out how, while trying to "go beyond" one's limits is important, those limits exist for a reason and need time to move past them, and trying to charge past them at breakneck pace will just cause you to break first, which is what happened to Izuku in canon as he tried to gain control over One For All and just kept breaking himself repeatedly.
- No One Is Untouchable attacks the hero society for being so obsessed with the image of heroes that they don't care about how they actually are. Aizawa, in particular, gets hit for his Double Standard in "expelling" an entire class (and keeping black marks in their records) to make them take things seriously while giving people like Bakugo, Mineta, Shinso, and Todoroki free reign, causing them to become horrible people.
- Peace's Apprentice takes Aizawa to task for his horrible teaching methods, eventually resulting in him being fired from U.A. after the USJ attack.
- The Sticks and Stones series has Aizawa and Bakugou facing Adaptational Karma after Tenya is injured by Bakugou's reckless assault on Midoriya during their first training exercise, as Aizawa tries to exploit the situation and draws a massive investigation down upon U.A. as his Double Standards and questionable teaching methods are exposed. Notably, the author states that they are specifically trying to avoid making Aizawa a Hate Sink by delving into his psyche and reasoning, even if it's ultimately an explanation, not an excuse.
- We're Not Friends Kacchan has the rest of Class 1-A learn about Bakugou telling Midoriya to "take a swan dive off the roof". The story also criticizes Aiwaza, making clear that his students don't trust him after all his "logical ruses" and ignoring Bakugou's behavior for so long, but takes a sympathetic stance towards it, with Aizawa having a massive Jerkass Realization.
- The entire reason Always (MHA) exists stems from WindsCarryFar being dissatisfied with Chapter 430 of the manga.
- The No Game No Life fic A Bet Too Far criticizes Sora's decision to bet Imanity's Race Piece against the Warbeasts in order to corner them and force them into a game for the Eastern Federation's land in Elkia, since if Sora had lost, then Imanity would have been stripped of its protections under the Ten Pledges and gone extinct. Both Steph and Kurami find themselves agreeing that it's a terrible idea, with the former frustrated at how Sora prefers to manipulate people rather than honestly communicate with them, and the latter angry that Sora's plan endangers her and the other Imanity slaves in Elven Gard.
- The Sailor Moon fic Mad King Zoisite plays this for laughs, with Zoisite surviving Beryl's attack on him and being pissed off at Kunzite for making him do most of the work for their mission.
- A Mother's Touch has Yoko viscerally and verbally ripping apart Reiji Akaba and Sylvio Sawatari for their actions in the first part of Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V. For Reiji, she questions why he doesn't just ask Yuya for his Pendulum Cards instead of this convoluted, idiotic, asshole of a plot that involves requesting Sylvio to steal his cards and put children in danger for the sake of two stupid cards. And that's not adding how Sylvio whines and complained about Yuya (actually Yuto) attacking Yuya when he was that much of a moron to not notice that the Yuya who dueled him used Xyz; an archetype Yuya doesn't know at that point. Then, Yoko asks why Reiji tries to force Shuzo, principal of You Show and not her the co-owner of it, to buy a school for such a flimsy excuse just to take Yuya's cards and not pay any royalties for it. And this is all before she learns what Reiji did with her husband...

- Origin Story, a Power Girl/Buffy the Vampire Slayer crossover, was written specifically as a way to symbolically "punish" not just Tony Stark but the entire Marvel Comics Universe for what the author saw as the "travesty" of the Civil War story arc.

- Between My Brother and Me: Mors Omnibus:
- In Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V, Yusho Sakaki faces no consequences for how he left his son behind for three years in order to explore the Xyz Dimension, not caring about how this left his son traumatized and transformed him into a Stepford Smiler/Sad Clown while his school faded into nothingness and people mocked his supposed cowardice. Here, however, Yusho is repeatedly called out for not even bothering to say goodbye to his family first, asking Reiji to keep an eye on things in his absence, or tell anyone what was going on. It gets to the point that Yvonne, Ruri and Zarc all tell him that he's made very stupid decisions.
- Reiji is also held accountable for how he'd told Yusho about everything, but never really cared about Yuya unless it benefitted his plans in some fashion. Yusei tells Reiji that he's just like his dear old dad.
- This kind of fanfic is deconstructed in Cinders and Ashes: the Chronicles of Kamen Rider Dante. Souta's role in Setsuna's suicide as well as him hiding this from others, while brought to the attention of Hoshi, doesn't get a full-blown calling out like it would for other accusation fics because Hoshi realizes that Souta feels just as bad about this as him. Outside of what is the equivalent of writing an angry letter and not sending it (which Hoshi felt horrible with, especially when it took a life of its own in the form of Yudai) and a What the Hell, Hero? speech that's more about himself than Souta, Hoshi doesn't call out Souta for his actions and most of the other characters (barring Setsuna's understandably pissed off Creation and a guilt trip from Shimashima, who is later revealed to be her father) understand that Souta's working to atone for his mistake, thus defusing the tension that would normally be the case for Accusation Fics.
- Cleaved AFTERMATH has Star and Marco captured by the SCP Foundation after the Grand Finale of their series. They promptly reveal that while Star's attempt to permanently destroy magic didn't actually work the way she intended, only temporarily destroying one source of one type of magic, she still murdered the Magic High Commission and many other magic-based beings while merging Mewni and Earth together. Later chapters show just how far out the consequences rippled across various universes, while Star and Marco are offered absolutely no sympathy — as far as the Foundation is concerned, they're a couple of idiot teenagers who tried to destroy magic because that was the "easiest" solution they could come up with to a complex problem.
- The third chapter also mentions in passing that the Foundation punished Mabel Pines by ritually sacrificing her in a containment ritual, while erasing everyone's memories of her. Including her brother, whom they threw a bone by editing his parent's memories so that they gave permission for him to stay with Stan and Ford. The agents discussing her case complain about how much they hate dealing with people like Star and Mabel causing incidents, as people frequently argue that they should be treated with leniency due to their youth and gender, acting like the horrible fate they inflicted upon her was simply what she deserved for unwittingly unleashing Bill.
- Code Prime, especially R1, spends most of its latter acts having either Lelouch, Optimus Prime, Starscream, and Megatron calling out Suzaku Kururugi's motives, from him killing his own father to working with Britannia to change to system, and even to his true motivations as a Death Seeker. R2 is when the story stops becoming this with Suzaku essentially having developed in a much nicer way.
- The Devil Fruit Hero: The author of this fic has made it clear that he doesn't like Monoma or Pixie-Bob. The former for being an insufferable asshole who is unfit to be a hero, the latter is considered to be an ephebophile due to a joke about her being a Mrs. Robinson. As such, they turn Monoma into a borderline malicious asshole who is dropped to Gen Ed, and Pixie-Bob is the one who has her Quirk stolen and is then given to Parten to be brutally raped.
- Elements of Justice: A Hollow Diamond: Because of Diamond Tiara's actions in "Crusadin' for a Turnabout" ending in the death of a pony, one shipped to military school, and his mom also in trouble because she just wanted shiny fabric, her father chews her out for her utter stupidity in how this stunt has completely smeared the family name and most likely made them lose money if Sweet Apple Acres refuses to do business with her. He even goes far as to ask why didn't she just ask him to buy the fabric cause they're so filthy rich.
- Infinity Train: Blossoming Trail spends its first chapter setting up for Chloe's departure on the Train by delving into how she feels isolated due to her lack of interest in Pokémon, and how much she's come to resent the way that her Childhood Friend and father care more about Pokémon than they do about her. This culminates in a furious confrontation where she takes them to task for their neglect before running away.
- Chapters later, Goh chews out all of Chloe's classmates who pressured her into doing something she didn't like and were more focused on Chloe fighting Ash than the fact that she's been missing for about a week. Most notably, the student that takes the heat is the student Yeardley (the only named student in Chloe's class from the anime) who the author notes that the writers used to make a Double Standard that a boy doesn't have to be pressured on who he wants to be (he got to tell his classmates that his life is "a work in progress"), but the girl (Chloe) and her life choices have to be decided by her peers (because she was asked "Hey Chloe, are you going to be like your dad?").
- Trip calls out Professor Cerise, Chryssa, Renji, and Ash for doing nothing to help Chloe or to notice how she was suffering and tells them that they better shape up else Chloe will want to go back on the Train if she returns.
- The story goes on to deconstruct its own premise as an Accusation Fic, highlighting how easy it is to devolve into blame-shifting, unwarranted guilt, and pure cruelty when people mistake what's personally cathartic for what's fair and healthy. People who are accused are shown to have made honest, non-malicious mistakes or have been misjudged. And when you take the act too far you become the monster Parker.
- Infinity Train: Knight of the Orange Lily, the prequel to Blossoming Trail, has Lillie furious at Gladion for essentially keeping her in the dark about what happened on the night Nihilego appeared, and withholding Type: Null's role in all of this, meaning that Gladion is the reason why Lillie's fear of Pokémon lingered longer than it should. However, Lillie is also given reality checks that for all Gladion did wrong, she's not clean either. Dulse plainly points out this Double Standard with one question — if Lillie had this trauma for so long, why didn't she tell Lusamine about it sooner?
- Many (if not all) Maribat AU fics call out Mme. Bustier's class for their actions towards Marinette.
- Ms. Bustier is seen as an an utterly useless teacher by the Wayne Enterprises staff and Wayne family due to her nonchalance about Marinette being left behind despite the fact that she is a minor left alone in a city as dangerous as Gotham. They also notice how Mme. Bustier doesn't stop the obvious bullying of Marinette by the class.
- Most of Marinette's classmates are portrayed Gullible Lemmings who easily turn upon their 'Everyday Ladybug' thanks to Lila.
- Only Chloé is excluded from this. Sometimes a few classmates get wise to Lila's lies before the start of the (or during the) fics and support Marinette. They are usually Juleka, Kim, Alix, and/or Max. Rarely, it's sometimes Adrien.
- Alya goes from Marinette's best friend to being the Beta Bitch to Lila's Alpha Bitch, becoming a miserable bully.
- Adrien/Chat Noir's Entitled to Have You behavior towards Ladybug and/or Marinette is taken to a disturbing level. His 'high road' approach of doing nothing and blaming Marinette for standing up to Lila is seen as cowardly and self-serving by both Marinette and the Wayne Family.
- While Marinette's Island Adventure is primarily derived from a standard "salt fic" for the events of the episode "Chameleon", the character outside of Lila to receive the most vitriol from the narration is Alya. Whereas most of the class are depicted as manipulated by Lila and either super gullible or wising up to her lies, Adrien being given some sympathy due to his behavior being the product of Gabriel's abuse, and Chloe being given a few humanizing moments like her being genuinely happy when Lindsay and Tyler hooked up, Alya is depicted as a delusional Control Freak and Fair-Weather Friend of Marinette's who has Blind Obedience to Lila, engages in severe levels of Double Think, and is quick to turn on anyone who doesn't show similar obedience to Lila. She similarly is the one who receives the most Laser-Guided Karma outside of Lila: she slowly alienates the rest of the class from her due to how aggressive she gets with them; her relationship with Nino is over after she slaps Ivan and makes clear to him she cares more for being Lila's sycophant that anything else, Alya seething when it looks like Nino moved on and is now with Alix; the LadyBlog has gone from a respected source of info regarding Ladybug to a glorified tabloid that cares more for gushing about Lila and demonizing Marinette, with Lady Luck openly disparaging it, and Richard Rossi having his lawyers issue a cease and desist order for its continued use towards promoting Lila's lies. By time she finally starts wising up to Lila's lies and doubting her, she's already burnt all the bridges she had and has no one to blame but herself.
- Paradoxus (WinxVerse, World of Warcraft): Half the plot-relevant characters think the Winx should have gotten rid of the Trix permanently. Because they didn't, the three witches kept coming back again and again like some kind of insane Whac-A-Mole game. Other villains, namely Lord Darkar and Valtor, were not only beaten but utterly destroyed (at the time this fic was conceived anyways). Do we see them re-emerging from their holes like cockroaches? Not at all. And the fic not only lampshades this, but plot-wise, the Trix team up with Eudora, help her invade Magix, and to crown it all, they take their revenge on Bloom through her youngest daughter and traumatize said daughter so much she gets lost in rage and pain.
- Pots and Kettles and its sequel have a strange case where two characters accuse each other. Kyubey, the one character who appears in both fics, is called out on both their Well-Intentioned Extremist measures of killing young girls to save the universe and lying about the truth by omitting it. Unfortunately, the accusers in question are Gil Graham and Ruby Rose, who aren't exactly innocent in the abusing young girls and lying by omission departments respectively, and Kyubey takes full advantage of this factoid, both times ending with them leaving their opponents too demoralized to continue arguing.
- Raise Your Voice Against Liars is notable in that it switches who's getting accused over time. At first, it goes after the usual Miraculous Ladybug "salt fic" targets — Marinette's classmates are called out for being Gullible Lemmings towards Lila, Adrien for his inaction on that front and harassing Ladybug as Chat Noir, and Mme. Bustier for being an ineffectual teacher. However, as the fic goes on, all of these characters undergo Character Development at varying speeds and become better people (sans Bustier, who gets hit hard with Adaptational Villainy instead); Adrien especially seeks to correct his misdeeds...which makes it all the more noticeable when Marinette and the Phantom Thieves keep shunning him in both identities despite this. While the fic acknowledges their reasons for doing so (e.g. the Chat Blanc timeline traumatizing Marinette to the point that she believes telling Chat anything will result in The End of the World as We Know It), the fact that they keep him in the dark to the point that they opt not to warn him that his dad is the supervillain Hawk Moth bites them in the ass, with Adrien calling them out on it and triggering a group Heel Realization in the process.
- The Ranma ½ and Neon Genesis Evangelion story The Wild Horse Thesis plays this straight as an arrow with both series...
- With the Ranma 1/2 cast, Ranma uses the fact he's trapped in another world to casually tell people about several things he's been unable to say to the face of the various people controlling his life, with characters like Ryoga and Tatewaki Kuno getting the harshest treatment.
- With Evangelion, Ranma beats up Gendo as therapy, refuses to go through the entire song and dance routine to stop one of the angels and tears Asuka a new one for her excessive superiority complex. He also manages to woo both Asuka and Rei while helping them both with their own issues.
- At least a good chunk of A Red Rose in the Blue Wind's Vale Saga is spent dissecting Ozpin's general mishandling of the Secret War against Salem, along with those within his secret group for not trusting the heroes enough in confiding them about their mission, thus causing Teams RWBY, JNPR, Sonic and Dark to be Stumbled Into the Plot. While Ozpin's Complexity Addiction in maintaining peace and Improperly Paranoid traits has made more issues than solve them throughout this and in the canon RWBY timeline, Qrow is singled out the most out of Ozpin's confidants simply for being his Yes-Man and acting rather jerkish to Sonic and his friends, with the story seemingly going out of its way to beat him down any chance it gets. It doesn't help when Moral Myopia is at play as despite Sonic and company calling out Ozpin for keeping secrets and complicating maters, he has no qualms about keeping Shadow's past and activities under wraps, making him come across as a hypocrite in that regard.
- YuyaVision has a side-story called Doppleganger Court that has Reiji and Shingo being chewed out at court for their actions on Yuya during Season 1 — stealing Yuya's cards, letting Yuzu, Ayu, Futoshi and Tatsuya nearly die during the Action Duel and attempting to steal You Show Duel School under the flimsy pretense that Yuya (actually Yuto) attacked Shingo — and shows them as apathetic greedy people who would let money and cards get in the way of people's safety. This is especially noticeable for Reiji as he is the CEO of Leo Corp. and he could've stopped the duel at any time when it got too dangerous.

- Bridge the Gap from Frozen II has Anna venting out all her bottled up anger towards Elsa for breaking her promise for doing things together and instead push her away to head to Ahtohallan by herself.
- One Last Chance from Frozen II has Anna venting out her anger at Elsa for sending her and Olaf away when she resolved to journey to Ahtohallan on her own.

- After Captain America: Civil War broke the fanbase over who to side with, many fanfics were written in support of Team Captain America or Team Iron Man over their actions. Some examples:
- The Days of Reckoning Are Upon Us: A fanfic dedicated to writing what the author believes would be actual consequences for Team Cap's actions in the film, as well as AU works that follow the same train of thought from the author's disapproving perspective.
- Second Chances Series written by the same author as above is an AU about Tony's parents coming Back from the Dead, but most of the events are still about Team Cap having to face trial and even jailtime for the events of Civil War.
- Enough Rope takes a similar approach. It seeks to apply more realistic geopolitics to the Accords themselves.
- To Trope or Not to Trope is a pro-Captain America fic that is also a Deconstruction Fic of the tropes used in Team Iron Man stories such as the ones above.

- Mark Russell's first onscreen appearance in the fic (outside of dream sequences) as a side character involves an Ascended Extra quickly losing patience with his misdirected outbursts towards his own allies and repeated rants about him losing his son: telling him to just shut his motor mouth, giving him a blistering "Reason You Suck" Speech on how he constantly talks and acts like he's the only one whose suffering mattered during a national tragedy which claimed thousands of children, men and women's lives, telling him that all he does is talk and never act on his opinions, and capping off by spitefully telling him that Vivienne Graham's Heroic Sacrifice which saved him in Antarctica was wasted on an obnoxiously self-pitying and crummy wreck of a man like him. To Mark's credit, he does change his ways for the better throughout the rest of the fic, he inwardly agrees with the other characters that Vivienne was a better person than him and that they're right to resent that he lived instead of her, and his angst and trauma is played for sympathy throughout the rest of the fic going forward.
- Emma Russell is a posthumous case and she's played with almost none of the sympathy that Mark receives, as her own daughter Madison calls out everything that makes her Unintentionally Unsympathetic while making it clear that both she and Mark haven't and couldn't forgive Emma, because of the scope of her crimes and the awful reasons she commited them on, even after she sacrificed herself trying to make things right. In fact, Mark reluctantly admits that Emma got off easy by dying when she did in her canon Heroic Sacrifice instead of living to face a court of justice for crimes against humanity.
Live-Action TV
- Angel has a canon example of this trope in the Season 5 episode "Damage". Angel and crew get called out by AndrewWho? of all people for the morally questionable move of taking over Wolfram & Hart and the resources the evil law firm provides.
Andrew: (to Angel) News flash — nobody in our camp trusts you anymore. Nobody. You work for Wolfram & Hart. Don't fool yourself... we're not on the same side.
- In Doctor Who, it's licensed! Many Expanded Universe novels during the hiatus have pretty much everybody, up to and including his past and future selves, mercilessly let the Seventh Doctor have it, sometimes going past What the Hell, Hero? and right into Revenge Fic. Why the hate? Well, Seven was The Chessmaster, and sometimes used his friends as pieces on the board when absolutely necessary, and this was seen as being a callous jerk by many. Though the Ninth, Tenth, and Eleventh Doctors that came after the end of the hiatus have their own shades of grey and skeletons in their closet, they are frequently called out for such behavior, and the Doctor is referred to by several characters — both good and bad — as being unsafe, blood-stained, and followed in his wake by death, even referred to as the "Trickster" or "Goblin" in the legend of the Pandorica.
- Both Tony DiNozzo and Tim McGee are common focuses of this in NCIS fic, based on the various ways they have been mistreated by the other members of their team. The most common theme in Tim-centric fics is the aftermath of the dog attack in "Dog Tags", while Tony's usually focus on Tim and Ziva turning his radio down in "Dead Air" leaving him without backup while he was undercover.
- Because of the grand scale of action on Supernatural sometimes a character takes an action that affects the whole group, but not everyone is aware of it.
- In fanfic, Castiel is called out for releasing Sam, which triggered the events that led up to the Apocalypse. In canon, neither brother is aware of this and Castiel never mentions it, although he tries to atone for it through his actions. In fanfiction, however, he is forced to admit and be chewed out for his role in the destruction it caused.
- Although Dean chews Sam out for it multiple times, about three years pass between the time Sam fails to search for Dean in purgatory in season 8 and the time he apologizes for failing to do so in season 11. The action is so Out of Character that there is a great deal of fanfic that explores Dean being angry and Sam being immediately and genuinely remorseful.
- Although Dean expresses remorse in the series and Sam is rightfully upset, a large chunk of fan fiction delves further into the angst they feel the brothers should have experienced when Dean tricks Sam, who has a long history of being physically violated, into being possessed by an angel who turns out to be a villain.

- Fire Emblem:
- A Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones fic, In Questioning Ghosts, has Eirika unable to explain Lyon to the people without calling him on every mistake he made and in the end being unable to ever forgive him.
- Another fic for Fire Emblem: Awakening deconstructs Chrom's ending, in which a male Robin expresses his anger towards Chrom for not letting him deal the final blow to Grima, citing that it was not Chrom's decision to make and that he was selfish for doing it. He ends up sneaking off by himself to end his life as well as Grima's, and Chrom is left to suffer the damages and consequences of his choice.
- Senbonzakura, a post-Conquest route Fates fic, presents Sakura as being far more resentful towards Corrin over his choice as a way of the author addressing their problem with Conquest!Corrin's choices and actions.
- A Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones fic, In Questioning Ghosts
- The Persona 3 fanfic Second Time's The Charm has Yukari (like the author) getting fed up with Aigis repetitively and hypocritically reminding her that Ryoji (Yukari's boyfriend in this fic) is dangerous and saying "Well, so are you, yet we still keep you around. Goes to show it doesn't really matter, does it?"
- Redress has its version of PMD Explorers's hero call out Chatot in Brine Cave for his mishandling of the Perfect Apples incident.
- Super Mario Bros.: Invisible: From the Desk of Princess Daisy is a fic where Daisy is Driven to Suicide because she thinks no one wants her around and that her friends find her annoying. It is a Take That! against how the franchise regulates Daisy to spinoffs. In the end, Daisy wakes up from a coma. Peach tells Daisy that she was wrong, that her friends do like her.
- Super Robot Wars Z2: Saisei-Hen did this with Ougi's decision to betray the Black Knights in Code Geass R2. Schneizel reveals to the Knights and ZEXIS the true identity of Zero (a.k.a. Lelouch vi Britannia) and tells them about the properties of Lelouch's Geass. It gets worse when an angry Ougi appears after hearing everything about Zero from Villetta.
While the majority gets manipulated into believing what Schneizel says, only a handful of people (Sumeragi, Roger, Heero, and Chirico) see through Schneizel's plan and deceit. When Zero arrives, the Black Knights are prepared to pounce on him like in the anime, but some members of ZEXIS (Sumeragi, Roger, Heero, Chirico, Crowe, Simon, and Viral) tell the Black Knights to wait and give Zero a chance to explain his actions.
If the player has managed to obtain enough Zero points, Ougi will have the option to believe or not believe in Zero. With Ougi deciding to give Zero a chance to explain his actions and the betrayal of the Black Knights being averted, an embarrassed Schneizel has no choice but to leave peacefully. Zero then removes his mask and starts explaining his actions to everyone.
Web Animation
- RWBY: The show's Broken Base has spawned a few accusation fics, especially in light of the Seasonal Rot in later seasons:
- Coeur Al'Aran, though he almost never centers his fics around these, often still uses his fanfics to take potshots at elements of canon's characters and storylines that he dislikes.
- Most of his fics where they come up and where the main team line-ups aren't rearrangednote portray the titular heroines as heroes with an F in good for: public endangerment in their canon fights, their infamous Unintentionally Unsympathetic canon actions during the Atlas arc, morally contradicting themselves; and generally, Coeur makes it clear that he sees Team RWBY's canon confidence and brashness as unearned and arrogant, and he sees their views on friend and foe, and insistence on doing things their own way as dangerous traits which lead them to cause unnecessary harm and destruction.
- Different works have deconstructed and called Blake out on a number of things where canon didn't, with her hypocrisy being a key part of her character. Such as Blake not doing anything to protect fellow Faunus at Beacon like Velvet from discrimination and harassment which she claims to be out to do nor taking any concise steps outside of her Menagerie arc towards addressing Faunus racism; her having had plenty of chances as the White Fang pre-radicalization founders' daughter to see the direction the organization was going down for years before she finally defected, by which time she had as much blood on her hands as the rest of the Fang's radicals; and she also gets called out by her parents (passive-aggressively) or her friends (much more directly) for not doing anything to contact her parents and at least let them know that their daughter was alive in-between her defection and the fall of Beacon.
- His fics also call out Weiss on her doublethink of constantly preaching about how she's going to claim her inheritance of the SDC and redeem it of Jacques' corruptive influence, when in practice she's constantly put that dream on the wayside in favor of focusing on her other dream of being a Huntress and Huntress responsibilities, yet still treats her inheritance of the company like an entitlement and doesn't consider that she'll likely have to sacrifice one dream for the other. All of which does not make for a good future corporate executive in charge of a major international mega-corp, and makes it look more likely that Weiss would drive the SDC into decline if she did inherit it, making Jacques come across as having a harshly-conveyed but valid point about Weiss being unfit to inherit control of the company.
- Coeur also tends to lambast Jaune (his most common Adaptational Protagonist) for not taking essential precautions before coming to Beacon and somehow lucking his way through the Huntsman school and the first volume...
- ...and he thinks that Pyrrha is at fault for never making her romantic feelings clear to Jaune earlier and for continuing to angst over her fame-induced lonely background after she's gained a whole social circle in Beacon whom don't care in the slightest about her fame.
- Coeur considers the canon designated Noble Demon Hazel's motivations from the show for siding with the Queen of the Grimm and despising Ozpin due to Gretchen's death by one of the Grimm themselves to be completely non-sensical, with Coeur's fics often calling Hazel a bafflingly extreme and selfish hypocrite, and even Hazel's own villainous and far less canonically-honorable allies are depicted being bemused by or contemptuous of his mindset. Even when his motivations were latter expanded to show he was just as manipulated by Salem into thinking she was making a new world order where no one would die like Gretchen did and changed sides and gave his life fighting Salem and protecting Emerald, Coeur found his motivations to be even dumber as a result.
- Any of his fics where the Brother Gods directly appear hold them as being more at fault than Salem herself is for Salem's turn to villainy and Remnant's present day crapsack state. Calling them out on how they repeatedly broke their own rules against messing with the alleged balance of life and death when it didn't concern helping a petulant but legitimately-grieving woman, and noting that there would have had to have been some impetus in how they ruled Remnant for Salem to convince so many human monarchs to rebel against the Gods, and how they have never (and, due to what they are, unfortunately aren't compelled to) take responsibility for their own mistakes.
- After Volume 8 aired, any of Coeur's fics where Rhodes from Cinder's canon backstory is referenced will make it clear through Cinder's and/or other characters' reactions that Coeur doesn't think much of Rhodes for (A) knowing about the absolutely disgusting abuse that a child Cinder was facing under Madame, yet expecting her to just slug it out until she came of age instead of intervening to get the young girl the hell out of there immediately; and for (B) trying to arrest Cinder instead of giving her the sympathy, understanding and help that a child in her position would have really needed when she — predictably and understandably in Coeur's opinion — snapped and killed her abusers.
- Animosity (Link) depicts Ruby, Weiss and Blake's canon actions in Volume 8 of telling the entire world about Salem, name-dropping Glynda Goodwitch as a source of answers, and throwing Ironwood under the bus after his Sanity Slippage (all of which the show made out to be a righteous course of action) as actually being one of the worst things they could possibly have done, with practically unforgivable consequences, as the fic illustrates the world's reactions where canon was ambiguous. Mass panic and mob mentalities take hold, any and all meaningful progress that multiple kingdoms and the human-Faunus relations were making towards building bridges instead of dividing further is completely reversed in a single night, and the resulting mass negativity triggers a wave of Grimm attacks on populated areas like Argus, where the Atlas Military stationed there got ransacked by one such mob that managed to lynch Cordovin. Many of Team RWBY and JNR's loved ones outside of Mantle and Atlas are now either murdered or facing uncertain dooms. Furthermore, the fact that Blake canonically let Adam escape with his life at Volume 5's Haven battle and even stopped Sun from pursuing him, in this fic indirectly gets Blake's father Ghira murdered by a mob of racists jumped-up from believing that the entire Battle of Haven was staged to make the Faunus look good after finding out about Lionheart's dealings with Salem. In Vale, Glynda is horrified that Ruby and her friends took it all upon themselves to completely undo centuries of maintained secrecy without considering the consequences, and Glynda now has a target painted on her back because Ruby name-dropped her to the entirety of a ruined Vale. Lastly but not least, Salem reveals to Tyrian at the fic's end that she's keeping Ruby alive because the latter's blind idealism and stupidity is ultimately only making Salem's job much easier, increasing the very division which Salem thrives on to attain her destructive goals.
- Ironside, which takes place during Volume 7, puts the heroes' actions during and before the volume in a negative light, along with being constantly put to task for their entitled and hypocrtical behavior. While a lot of them slowly realize how detrimental their actions were after being called out on them for goodness knows how many times, Yang and Blake seem to take the lion's share of karma in different measures:
- Yang finds herself in a negative position when it's discovered that she was hiding the identity of the Spring Maiden from everyone, despite being the most insistent that Ironwood can't be trusted. Then she gets into an argument where she calls Weiss a... rather degrading word, putting her in even more poor standing. And after that, she leaks information about the Amity Project to Robyn, who in turn leaks it to a reporter who asks Ironwood about it during an interview, resulting in her comrades shunning her fiercely. Yang doesn't realize how much she put herself and everyone on the backfoot until she learns that Robyn intends to blackmail Ironwood with the information.
- Blake arguably gets it far worse. Following the fallout with Yang, she resorts to vigilantism in Mantle, which soon results in Accidental Murder. Later, she gets lured into a trap by a disguised Neo, where she and several other faunus, which including her parents, Sun, and Ilia are held captive by Tyrian. He threatens to kill them unless Blake reveals the Winter Maiden's identity. She refuses, but soon reveals that Fria is the Maiden after Tyrian kills several of the faunus, resulting in her friends and family shunning her. At the trial, she's held accountable for her actions and is sentenced to 40 years in prison, and won't be eligible for parole until fifteen years have passed.
- Just Like Him (Link), like another of Psyga's work, deconstructs this trope by having the accusers in question be the accused themselves, from Yang internalizing whether her lying about Raven was the right thing to Blake outright saying that she put Adam down like an animal. Everyone else only reassures the accused that they did the right thing. The only time this trope was played straight without any hint of deconstruction is Jaune calling out the hypocrisy of praising Pyrrha's Stupid Sacrifice yet condemning Jaune's insistence to throw his away at Argus, though, even then, it's clear that he was acting out of his own self-deprication than any real resentment.
- The Tale of a Cat Most Curious is in large part dedicated to listing the realistic consequences and Fridge Horror of the canon main heroes' actions in the later volumes up to Volume 9, and to calling out the heroes' own culpability — especially their "plan" implemented in Volume 8 to allow Atlas to crash on Mantle and open portals sending the populations into Vacuo. The fic calls out the heroes' Unintentionally Unsympathetic reasonings, Protagonist-Centered Morality and Moral Luck in the canon narrative, and it examines the main characters' onscreen patterns of behavior and how their overall transgressions and reasons stack up against those of the Curious Cat (the Arc Villain of Volume 9). The fic's take-away is that Ruby wasn't wrong but was completely right to doubt herself and question her team's actions during Volume 9, because they've all acted like unjustified, mass destructive, delusional and narcissistic glory seekers every step of the way whom are just as bad or even worse than General Ironwood (whom they are blamed in this fic for driving to his fall from grace with their canon actions in the first place). The main heroes are also described as far worse and more villainous than the Curious Cat in practice, having hurt far more people overall and had more agency than the Cat ever did, and because none of them except Ruby have actually shown any willingness to change their ways in order to stop getting people hurt if offered the chance to.
- The author also wrote a Remnant-set timeline on his Tumblr which more explicitly shows that the consequences of the Volume 8 plan and Ruby taking over Ironwood's plan to tell the world about Salem were devastating.

- Stormbenders was written by an author who believed Aang wasn't a true hero, that he was selfish and refused to grow up and change, and thus painted him as an unsympathetic child. In her view, it was Zuko who was the Real Hero (and more importantly, deserved Katara's love more).
- On a lesser scale, An Aging Ideology has Sokka calling Aang out for his refusal to kill Ozai in the finale.
- The Stalking Zuko Series also has Katara calling Aang out on not killing Ozai, and the implication that he is hypocritical for not killing Ozai, but sinking Fire Nation ships while fused with the Ocean Spirit. The author's ultimate goal as far as Aang's character arc goes is to give Aang Character Development that he never got in canon, particularly the realization that he isn't always right, and as such, very few of Aang's major decisions pass without scrutiny or criticism.
- Vathara's one-shot, Theft Absolute, points out how stupid it was for Zuko to steal that ostrich-horse in "The Cave of Two Lovers". ("What will bring news to [Azula's] ears more swiftly, nephew? Two refugees who leave in the night... or an ostrich-horse thief?") This one-shot would then go on to form the basis of Embers (Vathara).
- Towards the Sun: It's very subtle but author was displeased that in canon, Iroh stayed in Ba Sing Se to run the Jasmine Dragon after the war instead of actually helping his politically inexperienced, teenage nephew to rule their homeland by staying as an adviser. Iroh doesn't escape duty, here.

- There are many fics, such as this one, where Kuvira calls out Suyin for being a bad foster mom who didn't treat her like a daughter. It should be noted that while Suyin being Kuvira's foster mother is a popular interpretation of their relationship, the show itself never explicitly states it, while the comics would later reveal that it was more of a close teacher/student bond (at least on Suyin's side of the equation).

- An Adventure Too Weird For Words casts most of the main cast in an excessively harsh light, but none more so than Della, who is presented as a Toxic Family Influence who singlehandedly turned them against Louie in the wake of the Timetub incident. Louie finds himself as the Black Sheep and scapegoat of his family, to the point that not only does nobody notice when he's accidentally left behind during an adventure, he finds himself getting lectured for not listening to a warning he wasn't even present for, driving home just how thoroughly they failed to notice his absence.
- Downplayed in Cora-Louie, another work by the author of An Adventure Too Weird For Words. While Louie still feels unloved and unappreciated by the rest of his family, it's made much clearer that this is the result of him falling into Theory Tunnelvision. Della is still presented as having overreacted and excessively punished him, but actually acknowledges that she Must Make Amends, even if she doesn't know how to approach him.
- A lot of Meg-centric fic for Family Guy involves this trope, with the Griffins and other antagonists of her being ripped a new one for their behavior. On the non-Meg front, we have Payback from a Pipe, in which Stewie calls Quagmire out on his hypocrisy regarding his own accusations towards Brian and beating him to an inch of his life for unknowingly sleeping with his transgender father.
- Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends: One Step Ahead has Mac decide enough is enough after the events of "I Only Have Surprise For You", where Bloo roped nearly everyone in the whole house into a Surprise Party that was actually a cruel prank. He stops visiting Foster's, with most of the residents realizing that they betrayed his trust and drove him away.
- The Kim Possible fic Maslow presents a more detailed view of Drakken and Shego's relationship, with some of the things they've done to each other during the series being treated seriously instead of comedically, with realistic anger, hurt feelings, and strain on their partnership.
- In Lilo & Stitch: The Series, the eponymous girl and her illegal genetically engineered alien are tasked with capturing the other 625 experiments and re-purposing them before the bad guys get to them. However, some were obtained by the bad guys in order to create tension and not make the heroes seem completely undefeatable. Some fans cried foul about how Lilo appeared to just let some of the captured experiments go. Experiment 166: Fury (which may in fact be the first Accusation Fic, depending on how old the genre actually is) invents a specially-made fan experiment that calls Lilo out on this, and at the end, she and the others go and rescue the until-then captured experiments.note
- The Loud House:
- The fanfic Gal Pals serves to make sure that the Loud Sisters receive comeuppance for their past behavior towards Lincoln, with everyone calling them out.
- Losing Him is an AU fic of "No Such Luck Frog Wild" where Lincoln is kicked out of the house for being 'bad luck' which plays Lincoln's situation for drama and results in Lincoln being shot and his parents arrested for abandonment and neglect (because believe it or not, throwing a minor out of house and home is an actual crime that can get their parents or other caregivers jail time), with Lincoln having some very harsh words to say to his family for not only this ordeal, but everything else they've done to make him feel like The Un-Favorite.
- Miraculous Ladybug: Generally known as "salt" fics within the community, fanworks of this kind erupted in response to the season three episode "Chameleon". These fics exist in such great numbers that the majority of the fandom-specific plot page for the series is not only dedicated to detailing all the different storylines used by "salt" fics, but also breaks them down into character folders that list the most common roles that every character tends to play.
- Burning Bridges, Building Confidence treats most of Marinette's classmates (sans Chloé) as Gullible Lemmings who easily turn upon their 'Everyday Ladybug' thanks to Lila. Several individuals are hit especially hard:
- Alya goes from Marinette's best friend to Lila's personal enforcer, becoming a miserable bully helping spread Malicious Slander and even openly assaulting them in class (at one point tearing into Cole's face and popping open the stitches of her missing eye with sharpened nails).
- Ms. Bustier proves to be an utterly useless teacher who joins in blaming Cole and Marinette for the drama in her classroom, even going so far as to blame Cole (along with denying her medical treatment) for reflexively punching Alya after she assaults her. She winds up getting suspended from her job for it.
- Adrien is taken to task for standing by and letting all this happen, despite his claims that he and Marinette would face this together. His 'high road' approach of doing nothing and blaming Marinette for standing up to Lila is called out as cowardly and self-serving.
- Exposed asserts that Alya absolutely can NOT be trusted with Marinette's Secret Identity, as she promptly posts footage of her transforming on the Ladyblog. While she insists that she didn't do so just to draw in traffic, she still rhapsodizes about how this will make her famous, dismissing the danger she's put her supposed "bestie" in.
- The Karma of Lies digs into how Marinette was hurt by her classmates ostracizing her in favor of Lila, and also how she was hurt by Adrien choosing to 'take the high road' instead of exposing Lila's lies and protecting Marinette.
- Adrien is shown as someone who doesn't want to cause tension in the class and risk jeopardizing his friendships, so he chooses not to call out Lila's lies and thus protects her from the consequences of her actions. Unfortunately, Lila's many cruelties towards Marinette have been so heinous that she's built up a massive karmic backlash, and if that backlash can't hit Lila thanks to Adrien's protection, it will hit Adrien in her place.
- The rest of the class is criticized over the way they abandon Marinette in favor of Lila, including giving away the fancy clothes she made them (figuring she can always make more) and generally taking her for granted while simultaneously shunning and excluding her.
- While generally more positive toward its characters than The Karma of Lies, Recursive Fanfiction Karma's a Bitch shows no mercy to Ms. Bustier and Principal Damocles, pointing out that as the adults in the situation, it was their responsibility to punish bullying and make sure students weren't taking advantage of each other. Their negligence in not following up on any of Lila's forged excuse notes, fake disabilities, or false accusations against Marinette at the expense of proper procedure enables Lila (and Zoé) to con their classmates out of thousands of euros worth of personal property. They are squarely blamed for enabling both Lila and Chloé, with it being pointed out that had they done their jobs properly, both would have faced consequences for their actions long ago.
- The LadyBugOut AU begins with Alya getting called out on posting the photo she took of Ladybug and Chat Noir kissing under Oblivio's influence to the Ladyblog, deliberately omitting the context and ignoring how Ladybug protested. Alya refuses to acknowledge that she did anything wrong, spurring Ladybug's decision to start her own blog. Several other entries in the series center around characters getting taken to task for their decisions and having to deal with the consequences.
- A Lady’s Scout (and the Salt within her Soul) is a one-shot fic where Marinette not only replaces all of the temporary heroes who lost her trust, but subtly encourages rumors that she knew all of their identities because she secretly works as a 'talent scout' for Ladybug. This is used to emphasize the idea that most of her classmates are Fair-Weather Friends; the moment they think they can get something out of her, half the class promptly starts ignoring Lila in favor of Marinette again. Not that it does them any good...
- Miracle Queen Aftermath is set after the events of the third season finale, with the premise that Chloé faces consequences for her actions therein. Chloé herself doesn't actually appear in the story, however, and the main conflict stems from Miss Bustier and Adrien continuing to excuse her actions and insist her victims Turn the Other Cheek, which is shown to be naive, short-sighted and just as selfish as Chloé's behavior.
- Missing has Marinette go missing after Ladybug is hit by an akuma that makes its victims disappear, unintentionally wiping away the superheroine's Secret Identity. In her absence, those who knew her come to realize just how much they took her presence for granted, with those who betrayed her trust getting hit the hardest by guilt and grief. It also subtly deconstructs the series' ongoing arc that Marinette is probably not as good a hero as she could be because she focuses on things like trying to ask Adrien out by having the affected Ladybug be 100% mission-oriented - read "bigger jerk" - and not caring about Marinette’s disappearance because she is just one individual.
- In Rather be Me (than with You), Marinette has two major Cynicism Catalysts: Lila successfully turns the rest of her class against her, and she learns that Adrien was Chat Noir... after Master Fu stripped him of the Ring due to his Skewed Priorities and refusal to take his heroic responsibilities seriously. She then gives up on trying to warn anyone away from Lila, and by the time the main story begins, she's stopped holding a grudge against the Manipulative Bitch. Mainly because Lila actually left her alone, while all of her Fair-Weather Friends refused to accept that she wouldn't let them exploit her generosity anymore.
- Recklessness, a Recursive Fanfiction for The Lament Series, focuses on Alya's tendency to assume she knows what's best and force Marinette into uncomfortable situations, betraying her trust. Here, she takes her betrayal to a whole new level by deciding to steal the Earrings and Ring in order to make a reality-rewriting Wish... just to learn Hawkmoth's Secret Identity. She blatantly dismisses Marinette's concerns about misusing such massive power, Jumping Off the Slippery Slope by not even caring when she gets Marinette killed... and suffers Laser-Guided Karma in the new reality, as the Wish is granted by making her Hawkmoth.
- The Wolves in the Woods paints Miss Bustier as a hopeless enabler who allows bullies to rule her class while punishing their victims. Under her tutelage, Alya and the majority of her students become self-declared Bully Hunters who drive Marinette out of Francoise Dupont entirely, then brag about their successes to others, threatening to do the same to them if they don't do as they please. Most of the class are also depicted as Entitled Bastards who expect both Marinette and Lila to bend over backwards to cater to their every whim, offering nothing in return but scorn if they don't do as demanded.
- Burning Bridges, Building Confidence treats most of Marinette's classmates (sans Chloé) as Gullible Lemmings who easily turn upon their 'Everyday Ladybug' thanks to Lila. Several individuals are hit especially hard:
- The My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fandom has so many, there's a collection for it. Here are some notable categories:
- Multiple fanfics set after the Canterlot Wedding finale call out almost everyone in the fore for the stuff they did. Twilight for accusing the false Cadance with a lack of information to back her claims, her friends for ditching her in her time of need, Shining Armor for disowning his sister (though whether he did that himself or was mind-controlled into doing so is up to the writer), and Celestia for choosing her niece's comfort over the safety of her people. Most, if not all, Accusation Fics focus on calling out Twilight's friends for ditching Twilight, but there are some that accuse Celestia and Shining Armor of failing to protect Canterlot from the threat they had received. In fact, in one fanfic, it becomes fuel for an Anti-Celestia rebellion. A Canterlot Wedding: Aftermath is another one where Twilight is traumatized with nightmares. Many fics also have the real Cadence finding out what happened at the rehearsal and calling out everypony for how they treated Twilight, some having her break up with Shining and call the wedding off altogether.
- Setting these in the aftermath of "The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well" is also common. What's Eating Rainbow Dash?, for instance, lays the blame primarily at Twilight's hooves, painting her as unaware that publicly humiliating Dash would have long-term consequences, to the point that Dash nearly leaves Ponyville.
- Can they work it out? is noteworthy because it's one of the few Accusation Fics where one of the characters (in this case, Luna) notes that both sides have a point.
- On a similar note, there have been many dealing with the aftermath of "28 Pranks Later", like this one. and this one too.

- More than a few have popped up regarding the Wonderbolts, particularly in light of their appearances in "Wonderbolt Academy", "Rainbow Falls", and "Newbie Dash". The Quiververse story A Light in the Dark has a potential Wonderbolt recruit go so far as to tear up her application to join in Spitfire's office and then angrily chew her out for her leadership style and willingness to abandon her comrades.
- "...That's It?" is an example showcasing an alternate version of "The Cutie Remark" two-parter where Starlight Glimmer tells Twilight Sparkle her Freudian Excuse and reason to time travel and Make Wrong What Once Went Right. And instead of being sympathetic like in canon, Twilight shares the Disappointed by the Motive reaction that older viewers felt upon the realization that Starlight subjugated an entire town of people, and later made a lot of Bad Future Alternate Universes — one of which is essentially the canon version of Fallout: Equestria — just because her friend got their Cutie Mark before her and completely tears into Starlight with a "The Reason You Suck" Speech.
- There was once a popular accusation fic community for the Season 3 finale "Magical Mystery Cure" in which Twilight calls out Princess Celestia for imposing her "destiny" to become an alicorn princess on her when she already learned during the episode that it is wrong to have a destiny imposed on you. These fics often have Twilight rejecting her alicornation and princesshood, and either end with Twilight reverting back to being a unicorn, or Twilight being dismayed with her transformation being permanent. These died once the show made it clear she's not going back to normal and is in fact quite happy with her transformation.
- There are hundreds of these fanfics (Such as Bitter Tears: An Anon-A-Miss Fic) written in reaction to the Anon-A-Miss incident from the Equestria Girls Holiday Special, to express the fans' disgust with how quick the Humane Five were to abandon Sunset on flimsy evidence, or how petty and spiteful the CMC's reasoning was for framing her, and how easily they got off punishment-wise for they did.
- RainbowDoubleDash's Lunaverse got one to its own Season 1 Finale, Grass&Clouds2's After The Night which starts with Pinkie Pie confronting Trixie over her actions at the very end of AtGGG. It caused quite a stir.
- Twilight's behavior in "No Second Prances" led to a few accusation fics. One, Her Life Was In Your Hooves, has an uncharacteristically upset Celestia call out Twilight for almost driving Trixie to suicide.
- The Great Breakout calls out the princesses for sending a foal to Tartarus without even a trial at the end of season 8. Cozy Glow is just a very troubled, immature child who needs therapy more than anything. When her parents can't convince the princesses to let their daughter go, they break into Tartarus themselves and get her out.
- On that note, A Discussion on the Benefits of Murdering Small Children has Starlight calling out Twilight about Cozy Glow being permanently Taken for Granite in the series finale, equating it to the straight-up execution of a child.
- Runaway Crusaders is this to the episode "Ponyville Confidential". As the title suggests, the Cutie Mark Crusaders runaway from Ponyville instead of apologizing for the rumors spread by Gabby Gums. The Karmic Shunning of them comes back to haunt Twilight and her friends, and they all have Jerkass Realizations and later she along with Granny Smith and Mayor Mare call out the entire town while chewing them out on their hypocrisy. One version of this fanfic called Ponyville Runaways had Spike also point to a sign nearby that read, "PONYVILLE, THE MEANEST TOWN IN EQUESTRIA".
- The Masked Accuser deconstructs this trope by having the titular accuser being the only character who actively calls out the Mane Six and Celestia, turning it from a simple call-out into a mixture of Cold-Blooded Torture and Break Them by Talking, making it clear that her actions are making her the villain as she brings up unrelated, even comedic, events like they're horrible sins and admitting she gets her jollies from making them suffer. Her villainy extends to invoking negative consequences by making the public believe ponies had died in the invasion to discredit Celestia's authority. The only pony she isn't mean towards is Twilight, which she's biased towards due to being her Element personified (well, ponified) and believing her to be a much better ruler than Celestia, though due to her actions and her not expecting Twilight to declare herself as the one Pony she cannot forgive, she was sealed up into the Tree of Harmony along with the other Elements.
- She-Ra and the Princesses of Power received tons after the series ended:
- The Swear-Ra series by CountDorku feature fics where characters who the author felt got off way too easy on the show are called out by their actions
- don't you get it? by TheRegularWriter, which itself was inspired by one of the Swear-Ra fics, has Adora call Catra out for all the abuse she put her through.
- This isn't Going to Work by ThatADORAbleWarriorLady is another one, and features Adora breaking up with Catra.
- You never protected me! by TheRegularWriter is about how Adora feels like she could never have counted on anyone on the Horde when she was part of it.
- weak, frail, pathetic me by project_changeling has Adora, after getting a beat-up by Catra, overpower and scare her.
- The Kyle Saga is a webcomic focusing on the Butt-Monkey character Kyle, while it doesn't delve too much on it, it does bring up the show's mistreatment of him.
- The Swear-Ra
- Steven Universe:
- The oneshot Unlucky Jasper is one towards "Change Your Mind" and the general treatment of Jasper. It has a depressed Jasper calling out the Crystal Gems for not sympathizing with her more and instead trusting her abuser Lapis. Jasper then shatters her own gem in front of Steven, Lapis, and Amethyst because she has nowhere to go and no one to support her.
- Flawed Crystals is targeted at Steven. The final arc takes him to task for his callous and self-centered behavior during the final episodes of the show, especially his desire to save and reconcile with the diamonds at the expense of their victims.
- The oneshot Unlucky Jasper
- Teen Titans (2003):
- Defence has Raven calling Robin out on he acted towards Beast Boy in "The Beast Within". She also points that Beast Boy felt hurt and betrayed as well due to threatening to send him to jail during his interrogation that led to Beast Boy undergo another stress-induced transformation.
- The End of Ends calls out the Titans, The Doom Patrol, and Terra for all the "wrongdoings" they’ve done to Beast Boy, although, in an odd twist, Beast Boy is the only one who dies after a stint as the supervillain Count Logan, with the implication being that the surviving Titans and Terra have to live with what they did. The author, Dakari-King Mykan (of My Brave Pony: Starfleet Magic infamy), even has a name for this kind of fic: "Punishment Fics".

- WinxVerse: In Promises of Protection, Timmy snaps and shrieks blame at Bloom for all the hardships Tecna ever had to face, up to and including her being frozen by the Trix and having her wings torn out. Thankfully, it's only a small portion of the story; the rest of it is about Tecna and Timmy vacationing in a peaceful realm.
- With This Ring, a Young Justice (2010) Self-Insert Fic, calls out the League on how they fumbled with Superboy: while Paul admits that Superman doesn't have to get involved, it doesn't excuse how no one bothered to check up on him. OL had Miss Martian check Superboy's mind for implanted triggers and help integrate his psychically implanted knowledge. It's only through Orange Lantern, Miss Martian, and Wonder Woman's efforts that Superboy isn't the maladjusted, angry mess that he was in canon.
- The League gets a massive call-out for their mishandling of the CADMUS investigation.
- OL and Zatanna lose faith in the League when they had to find out from the news that Nabu, the creature that kidnapped Zatanna's father, is being allowed into the League.
