Kids World
is a fanfiction of Inside Out, set about a year after the events of the events of the first film.
The main premise of the story is that a Depopulation Bomb wipes out everyone who is over the age of twelve. As a result of this, Riley Anderson must navigate life after this has happened, as well as being forced to care for a four year old girl named Caroline. On top of all of this, her best friend Annis has decided that they need to reestablish society after everything that has happened, so Riley is forced to aid in this, but begins to question Annis' methods of accomplishing this task as time goes on.
This fanfic goes into these tropes:
- Big Bad Friend: Annis to Riley, initially.
- Bratty Half-Pint: Caroline acts like this towards Riley early on. Somewhat of a justified trope seeing as she was forced to live with her and had been through the trauma of her whole family's death.
- Big Sister Instinct: Riley eventually develops this for Caroline as the story progresses.
- Depopulation Bomb: One of these killing everyone over the age of thirteen is the inciting incident for the story.
- Enfant Terrible: Annis. She quickly becomes a dictator as the story progresses, forcing the other children to submit to her will, eventually going on to trying to feed an infant to dogs and lighting several buildings on fire with no concern about whether they are populated or not.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Harold. The first chapter describes him as being cynical and depressing to talk to, and he is shown to be somewhat abrasive throughout the story, but he does consistently try to do the right thing.
- Little Miss Snarker: Four year old Caroline and six year old Brooke have a few moments of this.
- Little Professor Dialog: All of the kids, including the younger ones talk more and more like mature adults as the story goes on.
- Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: Annis claims that she is trying to create order in a lawless city, but it becomes clear as the story progresses that her real motive is to control the other children.
- Only Fatal to Adults: The toxic gas that was released only killed the adults and teenagers, while the children under age twelve managed to survive.
