For the Harry Potter books:

• Take a drink every time the phrase 'Harry, Ron and Hermione' is used.
• Take a shot if anybody's being a Jerkass to Harry. Take two shots if it's Snape, Malfoy, or the Dursleys, and three if it's Umbridge.
• Take two if the Dursleys get visibly or verbally offended if a character says any magic-related words.
  • Take two if Vernon and/or Petunia use euphemisms such as "You-Know-What" for magic or magical objects.
• Take a drink every time Harry CAPSLOCKs. Take two if it's during or near a conversation in which Dumbledore praises his power of love. Take three for every time this happens in Order of the Phoenix.
• Take a drink every time Harry breaks the rules.
  • Take two when Hermione warns him about breaking the rules.
  • Finish your drink if Harry nearly gets expelled for breaking the rules.
• Take a shot every time Snape deducts points from Gryffindor.
  • For the truly daring, take a sip for each point he takes.
• Take a shot for every time a Meaningful Name crops up (Sirius and Lupin, for instance). If you have studied Latin or even just a Romance language, you are medically advised to skip this one.
• Take a shot for every time a MacGuffin is mentioned in passing. This includes people such as Sirius.
• Take a shot every time Harry uses Expelliarmus.
• Take a shot every time 'green' is mentioned. Two shots if it's 'emerald' or 'bright'. Take three if it's to do with Harry's eyes.
• Take a shot for every time 'sock' or 'socks' turn up. Take two if it's related to Dobby.
• Take a shot every time Harry almost dies.
• Take a shot every time the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher is incompetent, evil, or both.
• Take a shot every time Slytherin House is portrayed in a negative light.
• Take a shot every time Malfoy mentions his father. Take two if it's as a threat.
• Take a shot every time an Unforgivable Curse is used. Take two if it's used by a good guy.
• Take a sip every time Harry's scar is mentioned. Take another if it's hurting. Finish your drink if Harry's history is summed up within the next three sentences.
• Take a drink every time a character dies in Deathly Hallows. Take two if the character is a villain and finish your drink if it was one of your favorite characters.
• Take a drink every time Harry is compared to his parents. Take two sips if Harry says something about hearing that all the time.
• Take a drink every time Voldemort is referred to as "You-Know-Who" or "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named". Take two if he's referred to as "The Dark Lord".
  • Take a shot whenever Dumbledore calls him "Tom" to his face.
  • Take two shots whenever Harry calls him "Riddle" to his face.
  • Finish your drink if Harry gets a negative reaction from someone by calling him "Voldemort" out loud.
  • Chug a full bottle if someone besides Harry or Dumbledore refers to him as "Voldemort".
  • Take a shot every time his voice is described as "high and cold".
• Every time Snape's appearance is referenced in a negative way. Double it if the words "sallow", "slimy" and/or "greasy" are used. Triple if he's compared to a bat.
• Take a drink every time the phrase "There was a pause...", or any variation thereof, is used.
• Take a drink every time the phrases "utterly bewildered" or "thoroughly bewildered" are used.
• Take a sip if McGonagall drops her books.
• Drink the entire bottle and start a new one if McGonagall makes awesome shit happen.
  • Drink TWO bottles if the awesome shit is in Deathly Hallows...
    • Drink THREE bottles if the awesome shit involves humiliating or one-upping Umbridge!
• Take a drink every time Hermione chides Harry and/or Ron for not reading Hogwarts, A History.
  • Take another drink if Ron retorts that they don't have to because they can just ask her about stuff.
• Drink every time Ginny is told she's too young to be doing something or is deliberately not told plot-relevant information.
  • Take another drink if she ignores it and does whatever thing she wanted to do anyway.
• Take a drink for every time Dudley's weight is mentioned/mocked.
• Take a drink every time "The little color left in (character) drained from their face" or any variation of it is used.
• Take a drink whenever the Narrative Profanity Filter is applied. Two if it involves Ron or Peeves.
• Drink every time Fred and George finish each other's sentences, or speak at the same time.
• Drink whenever Snape curses Harry's father.
• Drink whenever Snape is in the same room as Sirius and/or Remus and looks like he wants to kill somebody.
• Take a drink whenever Harry casts a patronus. Take two drinks if someone else does.
• Take a sip whenever someone is described to run either up or down a flight of stairs, "two at a time" or "three at a time".
• Take a drink any time Harry’s concerns are dismissed. Take two if it’s by Dumbledore, McGonagall or Snape.
• Take a drink whenever Filch complains about something, or is said to have complained about something.
• Take a drink whenever the word "grim" or "grimly" appears. Take two if it has to do with Sirius.
• Take a drink whenever Neville forgets or loses something, or if his poor memory is mentioned. Take two if it's during a Potions class.
• Take a drink any time Ron and Hermione have an argument. Have your bottle ready in Book 1.
• Take a drink whenever Hermione expresses disgust at the way house-elves are treated, mentions S.P.E.W., or insists that they want wages and/or freedom. Take two if she uses Dobby as an example.
• Take a drink whenever Blast-Ended Skrewts are mentioned. Take two if it's in a book other than Goblet of Fire.
• Take a drink any time Snape’s loyalty is questioned.
• Take a drink when someone looks at Harry’s forehead/scar. Take two if they point at it.
• Take a shot whenever someone eats candy or a sweet item, and take a drink whenever a feast comes around.
• Take a shot for every instance of Fantastic Racism. If you want to decrease your chances for liver failure by a couple percentage points, only take a sip for instances between witches/wizards and muggles/muggle-borns.
  • Double it if it's a case of someone being a Boomerang Bigot. You may add an additional swig if they try to hide said fact.
  • In Chamber of Secrets, take a shot everytime the narrator mentions the colour of Lockhart's robes. 

The hardcore drinking game for films:

• Drink whenever magic is used or appears- a spell, brooms flying, portraits moving, a ghost appears on screen, whatever.
• Drink whenever the word "brilliant" is said.
• Drink whenever the words "magic", "wizard" or "witch" are said.
• Drink whenever one of Ron's Awesome Moments from the books is left out of the film. Twice if it's given to Hermione instead.
• Congratulations, you now know what alcohol poisoning feels like!

Alternative film drinking game:

• Take a drink every time the name of a spell is said.
  • Two drinks if there's any actual specific wand movements shown.
• Take a drink if someone uses a spell in combat that does something other than knock the enemy back in a blast of light.
• Take a drink every time Harry's scar is mentioned. Take another if it's hurting. Take three if Harry's connection to Voldemort is mentioned.
• Take a drink every time Harry is compared to his parents. Take two sips if Harry says something about hearing that all the time.
• Down your drink when Voldemort does an awkward hug.
• Take a sip every time you notice Emma Watson moves her eyebrows a lot every time she speaks.
• Take a drink every time someone uses Polyjuice potion, and another when they change back. This could be a nasty one with Barty Crouch Jr.
• Take a drink everytime someone scores in a Quidditch match. Take two shots when the Snitch is caught.
• Take a drink whenever there's a reference to Ron being poor or Hermione being clever.
• Take a drink whenever "Voldemort", "Horcrux" or "Deathly Hallows" are said.
• Take a drink whenever Hagrid says, "I shouldn't have said that."
• Take a drink whenever Slughorn says, "Merlin's beard!"
• Take a drink whenever house points are awarded.
  • Take two when someone takes points away from a house.
• Take a drink whenever Draco sneers.
  • We'd all be down and out in a minute.
• Take a sip whenever Draco calls Harry by his last name, take two whenever he exclaims that his father will hear about something.
• Take a drink whenever magical creatures appear on screen (for example dementors, hippogriffs, doxies, Nagini).
  • Our livers give up before the 4th movie, if marathoning.
• Take a drink any time someone calls Harry "The Boy who Lived."
  • Two shots if it's Voldemort.
• Take a drink whenever Ron says "Bloody Hell".
• Take a sip every time Harry says "Ahhhh".
• Chug if Seamus blows something up.
• Drink whenever you see a Beam-O-War.
• Take a sip when Dumbledore raises his voice.
  • Finish your drink during the infamous "HARRY! DID YOU PUT YOUR NAME IN THE GOBLET OF FIRE?!" scene.

For the Harry Potter video games:

• In The Order of the Phoenix, take a sip every time the word "Reward" is used.
• Take a sip every time Hermione states the obvious. Take another when Ron lampshades this.
• Take a drink whenever Hermione teaches everyone a new spell. Down the glass when whoever she teaches it to says that it's Harry who's a great teacher.
