Project Subathon: Urban Explorer
A downloadable game for Windows
"A washed-up streamer. Zero viewers. In a desperate search for fame. ignored by the world. Until you stumbled upon his stream.
You typed 'Hello'.
You gave him the audience he craved and the confidence to enter a mansion that was never meant to be filmed."
Project Subathon: Urban Explorer is an atmospheric horror simulation where you play as the chat.
Meet John "PieJaw" Petersky, a washed-up urban explorer willing to risk everything for one last viral hit. He has broken into the cursed mansion, a dark obsession among internet forum dwellers, whispered to contain a tragedy that no camera has ever lived to record.
But PieJaw is blind to the danger. He is distracted by fame, greed, and his own ego. You are his eyes. You are his conscience. You are his Witness.

PieJaw wasn't always a desperate man shouting into the void. Three years ago, he was the undisputed king of "grave-tube," the only creator who didn't need a script to scream.
His peak was "The Old Mill Incident." It was supposed to be a routine explore of a rusted industrial site, but twenty minutes in, he captured something impossible on camera: a silhouette that moved against the wind, a face that wasn't human. His terror wasn't acting; he hyperventilated live on stream for 40,000 people. The clip went global overnight.
That night defined his brand. While other streamers hired actors in monster masks or used cheap jump-scare audio, PieJaw built his empire on a single, arrogant claim: "Others fake their fear. I don't." He marketed himself as the OG, the only one selling a genuine horror experience.
But the algorithm is a cruel god. It got bored. Viewers grew numb to his "genuine" fear and moved on to louder, younger, faker creators. Now, his subscriber count is bleeding out. He needs a ghost that looks scarier than the one at the Mill. He needs to prove that he is still the only one brave enough.. or stupid enough to face the real thing.
To reclaim his crown, PieJaw went deep. He tracked down coordinates through a breadcrumb trail of forgotten folklore, obscure literature, and encrypted dark-web forums. The users there were obsessed with a nameless property hidden in the trees, a place whispered to contain a sealed Red Door. The theories were violent and conflicting: some claimed it was a failed government black site, others swore it was the altar of a demonic cult.
PieJaw doesn't care which theory is true. He is just there to be the first one to open the Red Door live on stream. He believes he is the only one brave enough to handle what's behind it.

There is no WASD. You do not control the character directly.
- NLP Input System: Type real sentences to interact. PieJaw understands you (mostly).
- Watch the Feed: Monitor PieJaw’s POV and his "Selfie Cam" for threats he misses.

This game is an experimental prototype created by 6 wonderful dudes for an internal Game Jam. The NLP controls, the premise, and the characters are all new ideas we wanted to test out.
Please excuse any bugs or technical hiccups you might encounter during your playthrough. We had a lot of fun making it, and we hope you have fun breaking it. Feedback is welcome!

TLDR: Solid idea and (mostly) solid execution. I think this idea has the potential to be turned into an episodic series if fleshed out more and some minor issues fixed. It would be cool to play through the first incident PieJaw captured for example and maybe learn if it was real or just a hoax.
I know this game is in active development so I'll offer what feedback I can here.
Visual
In relation to art style I don't have too many issues, but I do think the game could work with a few extra visual elements. Subtle things like some camera shake and a tiny bit of chromatic aberration and grain to simulate the lens. As no handheld camera is ever that smooth and not many cameras are crystal clear in the dark like that. Have some defocus during the hectic parts of quick movements too maybe. It may clash with the art style but I won't know for certain without seeing it but that's what I think could add to it. I know those things do irk some people so if those do get added, maybe make them optional.
Audio
The main thing that I think needs to be built on is the sound, most notably the voices, or lack there of. Since there's so much going on at once, I found it near impossible to focus on subtitles, typing, chat, face cam, etc; It was just too much at once for the most part. I think some form of voice would help me focus on the other elements. It'll also just add so much more to have more sound going, especially at the end when stuff starts going a bit nuts.
This one is a bit of a random idea but if you want to add randomness to each playthrough, maybe have a catalogue of sound effects that the 'chat' could play at random during the more quiet parts; Think how some streamers have it set up in real life to make extra money. Make this truly random and maybe even include easter eggs if someone uses a certain name. Imagine someone using Markiplier as a name then hearing "Freddy you bitch" for example.
Interesting game, enjoyed it!
Thank you for playing our game! I noticed that you played the earlier version. I've updated the game a week ago for deeper story and better mechanic. hehe..
I like that you start watching when he is still outside, rather than already in the building. It creates a really good mood for the setting, being in a dense cornfield(?) and walking to the mansion.
I feel like the game became a bit more linear, but I could be mistaken. I felt like PieJar was more in control than the player, which to be fair, is a good thing since he is just "taking suggestions".
The pacing is slower, which works better in my opinion. I manage to make him be stuck in place somehow, but that only happened once.
I love that he is the same old PieJar that I have come to love xD I feel like he got a bit dumber though, since he did not yap as much about random things or that poser Nighthound as much xD
The story/lore was really interesting, and a welcome addition from the build I played before. Finding the secrets of the mansion wants me to explore more of the lore. As well as being able to tell him to go home, to save him from his demise.
Awesome update!
I absolutely loved Version 1.0!!! Definitely had a fun experience with the new dialogue and added story. As I'm sure you've been told before, this concept really has potential and could be expanded upon. And I would absolutely love to cover more from this game. It's just too good!! Great work as always!
Had a bit of trouble getting him to go the right way and check something out, but it's a really awesome and interesting experience! Great job!
This game is super interesting. I love the indirect controls through chat and seeing how he reacts to it.
I really hope this gets expanded on, this could work so well if there are more rooms, more lore (which I know is being added, even in v.2 there were new things I did not see in my playthrough).
Or maybe even multiple paths depending on what you write, maybe the streamer can get annoyed with you over time, or start to like you more, which could impact how often he follows your messages.
He loves to talk about his camera or that poser, Nighthound xD
But sometimes he will start talking about those things because of a message that should not have triggered it.
Of course I encountered some bugs, but since I played it on the old patch, take these with a grain of salt, as they are probably fixed already. I got stuck in a loop where he would not see my messages anymore, making me restart the stream. Not a huge hassle, especially in the new patch with game speed options.
I really hope this gets more updates, or maybe a full project dedicated to it. Because this gimmick has such potential. I will 100% check back in the future to see if there have been any updates!
Bro, this such valuable feedback. Thank you!
Okay, I owe you to explain who Nighthound is in the next build. haha.
My playthrough and conclusion.
^_^Thank you so much for playing my very first game. Danke.
I love the premise of this game. Very well done. Very unique. Would love to see you make more horror games like this! Here's my gameplay:
Oh, hi Sarah. Thanks for playing, yo! Subscribed!
Wow! what a smooth playthrough, yo. Thanks for playing, Dyspo!
This game was recommended to me from a friend and I absolutely had a blast playing it! I'm interested in seeing how this concept will be expanded upon. Especially after seeing the devlogs. I hope my play through helps with any bugs, I look forward to your future games :)
Hi Felixtfox! Congrats on surviving to the end, yo! Your gameplay was super helpful. It actually opened up some new ideas for system refinements. Please excuse the bugs for now.
I’m actually writing a new devlog right now while watching this, so I’ll definitely be including some findings from your run in the next build. Thanks, yo!
Interesting game , but for me after calendar option, the guy is just stuck in place, docent move or do anything i dont know how to progress because he is not saying anything :/ And i dont know what do type
Hi Miroslav87! Yes, I'm aware of the bug where the 'calendar' interaction causes the streamer to freeze. You can still play the current build by simply ignoring the calendar and waiting for the streamer to walk past it. I'm fixing this today and aim to release the update tomorrow along with major updates. Please wait and thank you for playing!
Ok. Good to hear that, thank you. Can you let me know when the update drops? so i can try again ? Thx
I am working through the night to finalize the update. The build expected to be ready this Saturday midnight or Sunday 6:00 AM (UTC+7) at the latest.
Hi Miroslav87! I kept my promise: Version 0.2 is finally live (along with playthrough - beware spoiler)! Hope you enjoy it.

thanks :)
cool idea
Hi Faith! I just watched your gameplay video, and I am so sorry you stumbled upon that game-breaking bug. I noticed you got stuck in the first room because the streamer refused to walk. I’ll be fixing that specific bug this weekend, along with a major update to the 'Time Scale' feature. Thanks so much for playing!
Hi Faith! Thank you so much for your playthrough of Project Subathon. Watching your video actually helped me track down and fix those bugs!
I’d be happy if you gave the updated version another try. I’ve linked the Devlog here: https://togeproductions.itch.io/project-subathon/devlog/1339649/hi-chat-version-....
It includes my own playthrough video. Warning: it contains spoilers), but it’s there if you need a guide to help you beat the game. Thanks again, Faith!
