I used to crochet a lot. I used to teach children and take naps. Now I'm in school again and wishing I could take a nap. All of my crochet patterns that you stumble over are free use, just credit me please. practically 30, She/Her/They(?).
Informal survey: if you’ve tried out or are interested in trying out Eat God, are there any particular media characters you’re interested in trying to emulate? Not necessarily as in statting them up directly, though that definitely counts – I’d be interested to hear about indirect inspirations, too!
(Conversely, if you can’t answer because this is the first time you’ve ever heard of the game, well, the text is open-licensed and free to download, so there’s an obvious solution to that problem.)
This is not quite what you asked, but a while back I was going through the rules trying to imagine out how to emulate Caliborn from Homestuck, but surprisingly found it much easier to model Dirk instead. (Peculiar Poise + Wicked Weapon + Polycephalous (sentient sunglasses to represent Lil Hal) + Art of Abundance). But hey, I think Dirk would appreciate the conceit of “What would I be like if I were a Muppet?”
I also found it very easy to create a Jellicle cat. You could make a whole party of Jellicle cats, in fact. If you want to be a troublemaking little cat, you have got OPTIONS.
I’m highlighting this one not because I have anything substantive to say in response, but simply because the mental image of a party of God-eaters consisting entirely of troublemaking little cats is fantastic.
Because I can’t resist elaborating on the Jellicle God-eaters, here are some thoughts on the concept.
First, Traits that could easily apply to any Jellicle cat:
Striking Stature—Puny (“Jellicle cats are rather small”)
Superior Sense—Hearing and Touch or Taste and Smell (they’re cats. enough said)
Vague Visage (just looks like an ordinary cat)
Flowing Form (again, they’re cats)
Also, in my experience, the Art of Transition appears to be an inherent ability of all cats.
And here are builds for some specific Cats. I went out of my way to ensure they all have different Traits to demonstrate that you really could have an all-Jellicle party.
Macavity
Stats:
Ethos: 5 (“He’s outwardly respectable”)
Pathos: 3
Logos: 7 (“There never was a cat of such deceitfulness and suavity”)
Traits:
Fluttering Flight (“He breaks the law of gravity”)
Bulging Brain (“His brow is deeply lined with thought, his head is highly domed”)
Peculiar Poise (“And when you think he’s half asleep, he’s always wide awake”)
Rebellious Art: Art of Transition (“Macavity’s not there!”)
Mr. Mistoffelees
Stats:
Ethos: 5
Pathos: 3
Logos: 7
(I know this is the same stat spread as Macavity, shhh. Different takes on the stats, though)
Traits:
Striking Stature—Puny (“He can creep through the tiniest crack”)
Dizzying Display (“He holds all the patent monopolies for performing surprising illusions and creating eccentric confusions”)
Dexterous Digits (“At prestidigitation and at legerdemain, he’ll defy examination and deceive you again”)
Rebellious Art: Art of Miscellany (“The Original Conjuring Cat”)
Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer*
* This is a fun one. Most of the time you appear to be playing one cat. But wait, doesn’t the pattern of its spots look a bit different than it did a minute ago…?
Stats:
Ethos: 3
Pathos: 6
Logos: 6
Traits:
Polycephalous (“Now which was which cat?”)
Fast Feet (“They would go through the house like a hurricane”)
Sticky Steps (“They were tightrope walkers and acrobats"… okay this one is a bit of a stretch, but I think being able to climb walls suits them)
Rebellious Art: Art of Abundance: ("It was Mungojerrie AND Rumpelteazer! And there’s nothing at all to be done about that!”)
Bustopher Jones
Stats:
Ethos: 7 (“No commonplace mousers have such well-cut trousers”)
Pathos: 5
Logos: 3
Traits:
Bottomless Belly (“He’s putting on weight every day”
Superior Sense—Taste and Smell (“He doesn’t haunt pubs—he has eight or nine clubs”)
Firm Flesh (“He’s a twenty-five pounder, or I am a bounder”)
Rebellious Art: Art of Indulgence (“It can cause no surprise that under our eyes, he has grown unmistakably round”)
Gus, the Theatre Cat
Stats:
Ethos: 4
Pathos: 7
Logos: 4
Traits:
Languorous Lure (“I’d a voice that would soften the hardest of hearts”)
Masterful Mimic (“With an hour of rehearsal, I never could fail”)
Modal Morphology (transform to Firefrore Fiddle, the Fiend of the Fell) (As Firefrore Fiddle:)
Primordial Power—Fire
Mighty Muscles
Rebellious Art: Art of Guising (“‘I have played,’ so he says, 'every possible part.’”)
No meme this week just a video of my sons being cute:
Also I’ve seen a comment or two wondering about Hunter’s actual gender, I don’t want to be cheeky or vague about it so if you want to know I posted the spoiler here:
New chapter up! Euphy and Hunter finally get to meet, and there are quite a lot of feelings, esp since Euphy gets the one-two punch of her father resurrecting and a surprise coming out.
It kind of fucks with me that somebody killed ötzi the iceman because ötzi himself is like whatever but the silent presence of human hands that drew back the string of the bow that shot the arrow that killed him is crazy. the idea that there were various people involved in that situation and while one of them has had his last hours painstakingly reconstructed and studied to no end, the others now only exist insofar that an arrowhead had to get into his shoulder somehow. imagine killing someone and then suddenly your entire existence is only a vague shadow implied by the fact that you killed them. much to consider
Testing the mummified bone marrow of ötzi to figure out his ancestry whole time there’s definitely another person, maybe more than one, standing in the room with us but I can never see or speak to them because I only know them through the assurance that they were there too in the form of one single arrowhead. I hate prehistory so much it’s unreal
Ok, mother of GOD that’s a lot of responses and I am but one man with Excel. I’ll update these ASAP but also some rules:
A Pokemon only counts for itself, not its evolution line.
A Pokemon with multiple forms (like Zygarde) will only be counted for the specified form. A Pokemon with multiple appearances (like Spinda, Vivillon, Sylvally, etc.) count for all their appearances.
I’m literally doing this as a testament to my own depression that not everyone is lovable, so add that to the weight of this post’s meaning.
We once had a discussion here on tumblr about carrying dinosaurs, at least raptors/other dromaeosaurs/small therapods. I advised carrying them facing backward, with the legs controlled, rather than forward with the legs tucked under the chest (where they can get leverage and the bird can struggle forward out of your grasp instead of struggling back into it more). Pleased as punch to see a bunch of professionals carrying some quite large birds around safely!
