Steam Whislist Driftline Peaks

Driftline Peaks is a touge racing game that challenges players to master the art of drifting across treacherous mountain passes. With tight corners, elevation changes, and retro scenic backdrops, each run tests your control and focus.

This demo features a 2 stages (stage 1 is playable in both day and night), a Time Trial mode, and 12 selectable cars with different specs (RWD, FWD & AWD) and tiers (A, B & C) and transmission options (manual or automatic gears). The gameplay of this game emphasizes fast, responsive arcade physics prioritizing fun, slide-heavy drifting and precise cornering over strict realism, with a low-poly aesthetic inspired by PS1-era touge racing games.

This is a work-in-progress demo; features, physics, or visuals may change. More content may be added to this demo in future updates.

If you enjoy the game and want to support its development, consider donating! Feedback is also greatly appreciated.

What to expect in the future?

  • New stages and more vehicles.
  • Game Modes:  Player VS CPU races, traffic challenges, free practice and replay mode.
  • Multiplayer: Local splitscreen and online battles.
  • And much more!!!

你是否打算为某些车设计地图在正式版

(2 edits) (+1)

有急事!打扰了!我又把via 135在第3张地图在临近隧道的1个转弯处撞到了雪坡上侧翻了![我很抱谦我的电脑不能发送图片 ]

Hey! Thanks for letting me know, I'll fix it in future updates!

(1 edit) (+1)

你好!打扰一下!请问你会不会把你以前作品里的车加入现在的游戏中?谢了!

我发现了刚到新地图木屋右边的彩蛋车!!!RT-7!!!

它侧翻了

Really addicting gameplay. I managed to unlock both cars after some trial, and enjoyed it all throughout. The music is very good and so is the atmosphere. Since it emphasizes time trials, it would be good to have segmented sections with their respective timers to know how far ahead or behind we are from our best. Also, the red line is not aligned with the engine's RPM limit of most cars, which makes manual transmission pretty much unviable. I wishlisted it on steam and will be anxiously awaiting for updates. Congratulations on the great work.

(+2)

Can you make controls to drive on up arrow left arrow right arrow and down arrow

(+1)

the game sort of visually looks like touge max 2. judging by the screenshots.

(+1)

Dude, you're a magician

(+2)

i just accidentally stumbled into this game, and this made me miss txr drift 2, awesome game can't wait for the full thing.

(+2)

Nice game

(+2)

it is amaizing

(-1)

可以认真做RT-7的车灯吗?它像从TR-86复制的灯。

希望你能在这 itch 上发布正式版。。。。

Good game! This look very promising👍

(+3)

This look very promising !

Here's some feedback (I'm going to state very obvious things that are probably already planned, but I want to be thorough) :

  • Collisions is the biggest problem now. They obviously need to be penalising in a game like this, but right now even slightly touching a wall with the back of the car makes you lose all your momentum. Also it needs some satisfying feedback, it's super important to make mistakes still enjoyable in some way. Some spark effect would be a minimum, and while I guess car deformation is outside of the scope of this game, maybe we can get some basic texture swapping ?

  • The second biggest problem is the speed. It's not just a "sensation" issue (FOV, sound, visual effects...), if think you could easily speed every car by 20% or so. Maybe it's because you've tried to use realistic values, if it's the case then forget about realism, it's not what your core audience will be after.

  • Not adding a handbrake button is an interesting move. It takes a few corners to get the handling, it's not deal breaking, but I'm wondering why you decided to do it this way. Is it because you wanted to use an analogue trigger for drifting ? It's not really a complaint, but I just want to understand.

  • Not sure if it's a bug or a feature, but sometimes I can't shift down. If it's supposed to simulate something, it should at the very least made more intelligible, but I would suggest just removing it, it just feels bad to have basic controls removed.

  • Some cars are just awful to drive. I'm all for having widely different cars (in fact I suggest to go for quality over quantity), but for example the Impreza can't drift, but can't turn either, it just feels like a tractor.

  • Probably a controversial take, but I would advice not wasting time creating AI opponents. It would take a lot of development time to make them actually interesting, when you could spend this time improving everything around time attack (adding an in-depth ghost feature, an online leaderboard with different leagues, timed event competitions, sending challenges to your friend list...). If you haven't, try Lonely Mountains: Downhill or Parking Garage Rally Circuit to see what I'm talking about.

  • An example of a simple missing feature for the time attack mode would be to add checkpoints with intermediate times.

  • The art direction is perfect, with just the right amount of nostalgia versus "smoothness", it looks gorgeous. My only gripe would be the tracks are lacking points of interest. Not only it's a bit bland, but having these would help memorise the tracks.

  • I think the tracks are slightly too long, especially the second one. I would suggest not going over the 2:30 mark for the average duration (and even that should be the upper limit).

  • Going over-rev should feel more visceral, you know with that super annoying and aggressive sound. Also I'm not sure why the rev counter stops so low, you basically can't get the needle to go to the last 30%.

  • This is a very specific feedback, but that you can take more broadly, I think the exhaust flame effect lacks a bit of ooomph !, you know like in CMR 2. It's probably not super realistic for "regular" cars to have massive exhaust backfire, but it's like having huge muzzleflashes on guns. Again, spectacle>realism.

  • Just in case the pause menu low-framerate is made on purpose to simulate a retro-game or something, it's really unpleasant, don't do it.
(+1)

This is some awesome feedback, right here! I couldn't have put any of it better myself, and I think all points are super valid.

Loving this game so far, but these tweaks listed here would make it untouchable :)

(+1)

Thanks a lot for the deep feedback! I'm actually working on the AIs but you might be right, it shouldn't be the priority right now.

And thanks for playing!

(+3)

Fun game, plays well and has alot of options for cars. Only complain I would say I have is I wish there was more game modes besides time trial. We have loved to race others. But besides that, I enjoyed it. 👍
(+2)

This brings me back to my High School days and going to the arcade in the bowling alley with all my friends with our Initial D profile cards and spending hours seeing who could get the fastest time. Great game I really enjoy it!

(+1)

really cool

(+2)

What's the best car to attempt 02:05:00 on the first map? I beat the 3 minute record on the other one easily but I'm always 5 seconds late on the first one.

(+2)

Right now, the BE-36 is the favorite pick to beat the sub 2:05 time.

(+2)

dude i really like his game : )

(+2)

The game faithfully recalls the golden days of the 32-bit generation. The PSX aesthetic has really drawn me to play several titles. Congratulations.

(1 edit) (+1)

racing wheel support?

(+2)

No full support for racing wheels yet, but you are free to try!

(+1)

It's nice, but the time to unlock new cars feels too hard to achieve (I can't save an additional 3-5 seconds on both maps without making any mistakes, it will take hours of grinding to find where I can save time)

Also, it feels very unfair when you hit a small part of the grass or curb and lose half of your momentum

(2 edits) (+1)

你可以用BE-36来完成!第1个弯可以减速硬拐,第1段以极限57秒,最后1弯1:58-1:59过,现在就试试!     我用这个来完成!    提示:the first map can use

等你的好消息!

is the first car inspired by initial D?

(+1)

Most cars are but some are just for fun or suggestions from other players.

(+1)

拿下2辆新车!!!!!!!!

wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

(+1)

very neat, i think, graphically it looks great and the drifting is super fun but the driving honestly feels a little slow and quite stiff. there's not really any energy or vibe imho

(+2)

I really like this game, I discovered it because of the 86 model on Sketchfab while I was looking for references for my own low poly 86 model.

I really like it so far, I love the graphics and I really like to see more arcade racing games with unrealistic but fun physics. I see a lot of potential in this one. The physics could be a bit more polished, the car seems to understeer too much when drifting and the wall penalty is too big. You lose a lot of speed and the cars take forever to get up to a decent speed. Overall, I can't wait for more, I'll be looking forward to the multiplayer mode update and more cars (don't forget the Levin 86! ;D)

This game is great! As someone who never got to play playstation psx or xbox games this is actually surprisingly entertaining! keep up the good work!!! :)

(+1)

This game is pure awesomeness, Touge done right!

oh hi nice seeing you here

(+1)

The new drifting feels worse (in my opinion) in the 1.3.1 update compared to 1.2...

What would you say is worse than before?

(+1)

I amend my initial statement from "it feels worse now" to  "I prefered the old mechanics"

(this is all my own personal opinion, and most likely could just be a glaring skill issue on my part).

I preferred the tighter drifting mechanics of the 1.2 release, I found the 1.3 update to be more slippery and less predictable. like controlling on ice.

I suppose it comes down to how much realism you want in the simulation. 1.2 had a more arcade-y feel to it which I prefer, and 1.3 has a more realistic feel which i'm sure some other people in the community prefer.

Maybe you could add an option in  the settings for how you want the drifting to feel, so people who like the new and the old style can still enjoy it the way they want. This will, however, change the amount of effort you will need to put in for supporting speedrunning as i'm sure there will be people who are faster on one setting or the other

Overall, I appreciate that it isn't a finished product yet and hope you won't take this as me saying your game is now terrible because it most definitely isn't. Also, please don't just use my experience, ask others in the community on what they prefer

ps: I love the new track

(+1)

I liked it. Drifting feels weird a bit but I haven't played this genre for a while now so maybe I'm wrong.
Problems I encountered:
-Walls stop you immediately which is weird.
-Cant go off track even where I should be able to because some knee high grass immediately stops me, there isn't many places like this it's very annoying.

(1 edit) (+1)(-1)

I'd get rid of the gt 2000 or heavily edit it.

the grip of the car should get higher even while drifting, I dont wanna feel like driving on ice when going under 80 kmh.

the guardrails shouldn't slow you down that much its not fun.

edit: nevermind I think it was intentional to make the 60s japanese sports car bad.

(+1)

Crazy seeing you here randomly. How's your game going?

yo!, abandoned, I am doing a full rework, gdd and everything, I will release it on steam.

that's awesome that people know me xD

(+2)

I don't mean to be an intentional devil's advocate for the sake of argument, but the guardrails have been the opposite of what you say, being a devastating issue. Whilst you assume they are irritatingly penalising, Japanese speedrunners have used guardrails to their advantage to get times of 1:30s, since at certain angles they don't affect the car (they are getting mega-nerfed). Overall, gt2000 is fine as is cuz it was added as an inside deal between someone in the discord and MoiDev, not intentionally meant to keep up.

TL;DR guardrails don't really penalise, were used in speedrunning. GT2000 is garbo intentionally.

(+1)

I think they're heavily nerfed now already, i tried the game recently and it didnt feel as bad.

(+2)

hello, MoiDev. I like this game so much, reminds me of arcade/ps1 games like side by side special 2000 and pc nostalgia game super drift 3d.

Suggestions for Dritfline Peaks:

1. race against 1 (duel race), 3, 5, or 7 opponents in Player vs CPU mode, and also in online/local split screen multiplayer mode.

2. add an option to change car color with custom colors.

3. add the circuit tracks (like side by side special 2000 did).

4. add more Japanese cars (Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru).

(+1)(-1)

I love the game, but there's a really annoying bug where, if you hit a gutter, you get stuck and you cant move, so you have to restart. One time, I got launched into the void by doing that

(+1)

Hey! thanks for letting me know, I'll check it out and fix it in next updates

(+2)

Hey man, I just realised why I was getting stuck, it was because I didn't know how to shift into reverse. I kept holding down "s" to no avail, when I randomly pressed "q" by accident, I realised that that's how you shift into reverse. I realise that the game doesn't have all the features yet, but maybe when the game is finished, when the car is in automatic mode, make long pressing "s" be reverse, and when in manual mode, do what you're doing now which is to shift with "q" and "e"

however, the launching bug did actually happen.

Anyway, I think the game is really promising, I love the game and especially its controls, I cant wait for it to be fully available and ready!
