Relive a coder's fever dream.

A coder never thought a change could lead to a sacrifice. Can they reclaim what was once lost? Is their prison the only way to survive? Why does it all feel... unusual?

::maligna kodera; is a puzzle game prototype created for Bevy Jam #7. It's a manifestation of a fever dream I once had, which answers a question noone asked: what if our perception of reality was formed through IDE of a programmer?

In this world, you navigate by typing. Typing more moves you further into unknown. On your way, you'll learn to move towards new directions (not only right, but also up, left and down!). You'll need to master this ability in order to maneuver through the maze of an architectural world you found yourself stuck into, while constantly feeling like there's something missing...

If you ever get stuck, remember that you can always revert your mistakes using backspace and Ctrl+Z (it might not work for non-QUERTY layouts, sorry, will fix it eventually).

Special thanks:

  • dazeeeed, who composed the first "theme" you hear in the game, but couldn't make more. I hope your exam went well!
  • Creators and contributors of Bevy game engine who made an interesting piece of software I had an opportunity to know more during the past week.
  • 4mat for creating "Paper Dolls", which kept me company during the most productive session of this jam! I hope it's okay for me to have a small snippet of it as an easter egg!
  • Everyone who uploaded sound effects to freesound.org under CC0 license, which allowed me to put together very cool soundscapes you can hear in this game.
  • Everyone who was willing to playtest this thing!
  • You, for playing it!

Edit: nevermind i think maybe i did not think outside the box enough

Awesome game! Revived my interest in making games :)

Yo okay, very interesting!

I feel like if we joined forces we could have a very interesting game huh. I recently made a game which pulled on some similar elements in a well, very different way — well, you’ll see. (Game in question)

Curious of your own thoughts

Absolute blast to explore around outside of the map in search of s e c r e t s.
Kinda reminds me of those MUDDrpgs from back in the day that you had to type each action out for.
10/10, would play more like this. :)

Fun puzzle! I made a script in AHKv2 to speed run it for no reason, in 3.4 seconds and 1081 moves!

Amazing game, took me a long time to solve two of the later puzzles, but then I blew right through the last one after having gained my knowledge!

wow this was amazing!

that was fun! Got stuck on the puzzle before the last one but got it in 50mins

Saw the youtube video, stopped it in the middle because I knew I had to play it

Same

Very impressive game!!

Best Game Ever! Took me watching the tutorial/showcase to complete the 3 last puzzles, but I'm going to ply this again and again until I master, so I can be ready for when this becomes a full-on game. IT WAS PERFECT!

Fun demo! image.png

insanely good mechanics, very very fun, and the atmosphere is incredible!! 32:48 with 3768 characters

Its brilliant! Needs to be a full game!

wow, this is really really good

Got stuck on the house puzzle >:(

This breaks my brain lol. I blame Rust which has always been my mortal enemy.
