I had to google who Maedros is after reading this, haha. Cirern's look is actually mainly inspired by Dante Gabriel Rossetti's paintings (such as Lady Lilith). That's what I told the artist I commissioned for his original portrait, and I've used that commission as reference for the other artworks that depict him made by other artists :)
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!
Hello, thank you for the kind comment and sorry that it's taken me so long to answer!
Feeling like you have nothing and a sense of isolation were some things I wanted to achieve with this part of the story. I'm really happy that it evoked such strong emotions in you <3
Regarding 'the escape': That's exactly why I added the option for the MC to run away to test Cirern rather than genuinely wanting to escape. I figured there were people who'd want to play an MC that would stay with him, but I didn't want them to have to skip that entire part of the chapter.
While I can't say what’s going to happen in the future, part I and II of the prologue aren’t isolated chapters; stuff that happens in them and some characters that appear are going to matter in some ways later on. More flashbacks are going to appear in future chapters as well!
Hi, thank you so much for the comment! I understand your point, since the nomadic background isn't focused on race like the aristocrat background is. That's mainly because the divide in the nomadic background isn't based on race, but on differing beliefs within the clan regarding its future, relation to forbidden magic and towards the crown. The aristocrat background is focused on race because elves hold the most power and is the most common and accepted race while humans have to fight to stay relevant, but in this case that's a struggle hugely tied to political power and influence. The MC's clan in the nomadic background has its own belief system, but it's not 'elven culture'; it's old beliefs that aren't really tied to any specific race. But it's something I could probably expand on - I'll keep your feedback in mind in case I think of some way of incorporating it in the nomadic background at a later date!
Hi and thanks for your comment! Sorry to hear about the continuity error; could you please tell me whether this happens when the MC is a child during the "Escape" section with the cryn child or whether it happens in chapter 1 when you meet Kirin towards the end of the demo?
During the "Escape" part, there's a variable that says that you have only read about cryn if you play the aristocrat background and didn't choose to play as cryn yourself during character creation. It's possible that this variable is buggy and appears when you played the scavenger background too; I'm going to investigate and see whether that's the case and change it accordingly if so.
I can't recall mentioning Kirin being cryn in chapter 1 since he doesn't reveal his appearance, but there's a lot of text to keep track of and it's very possible I might have missed it!
EDIT: I got to this very late since I've taken a break from working on this game, but I looked into this further and changed some code. It should be fixed now :)
Hi! Thanks for reporting - it's no bother at all, though I'm aware of the issue :) it's not something I've gotten around to fix yet since other things have been taking priority. The original template had a dark mode which then turned out like thos when my friend was kind enough to redesign the template for me and make it into what it looks like now haha. I'm going to see if it can be fixed at a later date! Thanks a lot <3
Hi! Thanks a lot for taking the time to send those screenshots and giving your feedback, it means a lot <3 I'll make sure to go through the screenshots soon and correct the mistakes there. Sorry in advance for the super long text; I wanted to explain thoroughly and properly!
As for the confusion you mentioned in chapter 1 - I understand where you're coming from. There might be instances where the transition isn't smooth enough because I actually wrote chapter 1 before writing any of the content present in prologue part I and II. That being said, I'm also deliberately keeping a lot of things vague since I want to reveal things bit by bit and letting you get used to the world instead of exposition dump an explanation for everything right away.
Although you get to play a bit of the MC's childhood, there's a 19 year time skip where the reader isn't really informed of what the MC has experienced during their time with Cirern and I want to delve into that bit by bit rather than all at once :) but I'm going to go over that part again! It's really helpful to know what is and isn't clear to readers since I already have all the information and it's difficult for me to determine that while proofreading. So thank you for that!
Can I ask you to specify what you meant by 'curse'? If you mean the part where the MC can't talk about certain things with Fri regarding their past, that's specified during the "Contract" part of the prologue if you say yes to knowing the terms of the contract.
And about the awkward transitions, that's a bug; there are quite a few variables involving the garm and Fri, and what Muir says differs, but the text where it says that he speaks and then doesn't say anything is a bug. I thought I had it fixed but I must have missed a variable there. Will look into that too!
Thank you so much for your feedback, I'm going to take it with me when I go back to editing chapter 1! And sorry again for the extremely long answer lmao ;;
I think I've solved the last error and also fixed the writing and coding mistakes. There's still some stuff I know I need to fix around the garm fight, but you should be able to play through it without getting stuck on the page now (I hope!!). Sorry for the inconvenience, please let me know if you encounter any other issues!
Hi! No, the demo doesn't end there. This is an oversight on my end - I knew there were instances like this where I've made some errors with some variables which leads to a dead end but didn't realize there were so many. I'm so sorry about that!
I was planning on fixing it properly next week since I'm currently in the process of writing more content for the final version of the demo, but I'll take the time I have today and tomorrow to go through the prologue and fix this instead. Thank you so much for reporting this!
Okay, thanks a lot for the info! I have limited time this weekend but I'll look into it more thoroughly asap <3
EDIT: I've been looking through the background stories and can't seem to find the issue as I'm able to progress to prologue part II without problem; maybe I'm misunderstanding where exactly this happens? I'll be playing through everything sometime soon and see if I can locate it though :)
Hi, thanks a lot for reading and for reporting this! There's quite a bit more content after the first part of the prologue. I'll see what the issue could be and let you know when it's fixed.
Would you be okay telling me which background you chose and whether you see the "End of Prologue Part I" button displayed at the end when completing your background or not, just so I can narrow things down and make it easier to locate the problem? :) If you don't want to say what background you played through when this issue popped up that's totally fine though.
I'm happy you're enjoying it so far despite this!
It would be easiest do do it on my Tumblr blog which is linked at the end of this page (before "more information"). You could send me an ask (anonymously or not) or a message there with code mistakes/bugs/errors etc. if you'd like! Thank you so much for taking the time both to read my story and report these bugs and errors, I really appreciate it <3 I'm still looking through things to find the empty page issue you mentioned + fixing some other things, sorry it's taking so long!
EDIT: I managed to locate one of the empty pages you mentioned and corrected it. Will be on the lookout for more :)
