You can use any assets you have the legal right to use.
And CC-licensed assets are all about giving you the legal right to use them. 😅
So I haven't looked up those specific songs you mentioned, but as long as you follow the license and credit your artists, you can use them. 👍

Sorry, we try to accommodate for people all around the world, so it's tricky to find a time that works for everyone.
We obviously hope that people focus on their final exams, but since some game jams last only 48 hours long, they might be able to work on a *tiny* game in between study sessions.
(If you have to choose one or the other though, obviously pick your exams.)
As long as you don't start working on the game or creating assets for the jam before the theme is revealed, you can brainstorm as much as you want to. 👍
It depends on the kind of person you are though.
I know my best jam games were made when I didn't have a plan in mind before the theme was announced, and my worst were made when I had a plan in mind before the start of the jam and tried to cram the theme into my original idea. 😅
You're allowed to use extensions, whether you made them yourself or not. 👍
We have a rule on the jam page that explains what amount of "pre-existing content" is allowed to be used in your game, since remaking the same extensions/assets again just so you can use them in the jam would be boring and you wouldn't really learn anything, but copying over too much from existing work you've done would be unfair for other participants.
I also pinned a message in the GDevelop discord game jam channel that hopefully explains pre-existing with an actual jam game example:
https://discord.com/channels/258623956158906368/630511209778774037/1222146236325...
Hope that helps. 👍
No, we didn't plan to include any honorable mentions this time around.
With so few games in this jam, if we highlighted too many games that we liked, then we would inadvertently point out the other games as ones that we didn't like. (Which wouldn't be nice for those developers.)
I hope that sounds fair. 👍
You can find the results of the jam, and instructions for collecting your prize, in our latest blog post:

Not this time.
I made this post to try and help explain what we're looking for:
https://itch.io/jam/staged-scene-jam/topic/5636703/submission-expectations
Since this isn't the usual game jam format, we'll explain exactly what the judges will be looking for.
1. A small visually appealing 3D game scene.
2. Something in the project must be in motion, or if it is a static scene, the camera should be moving/movable.
That's it!
Here are some examples of small "staged" scenes:

The jam winners announcement/release will happen on Monday, December 1st.
The winners video will be set to premiere on the GDevelop YouTube channel, and when that video finishes playing, all of the community voting results will be unlocked here on itch.
Hope to see you all there. 👍
1. Please do not update your itch page for the 3 days following the end of the voting period.
So the judges can have time to properly judge your game in the state it was in during the jam.
2. The winners video will be released on the GDevelop YouTube channel.
The community voting results will be released along with the winners video, which will be announced ahead of time on the channel, so we can all come together and find out who won at the same time.
3. Don't forget to add your game to the game jam 8 page on gd.games.
You can enter your game dashboard from inside of the engine and add the game jam 8 genre tag to your game, which will add your game to the game jam 8 page on gd.games. The genre tag will be removed when the winners video is published, so you'll lose your chance of being displayed on that page if you don't do it before then.
4. Jams are for personal development and fun.
Regardless of the rank your game gets in the jam, be sure to look at how much you learned, and the fun you had pushing yourself to create something new. 👍
This is a message thread explaining why people should not ask people to rate their game in exchange for rating theirs.
If we see you repeating this behavior, moderation actions may have to be taken towards your game.
Please ask them to "play" your game instead of asking them to rate your game because you rated theirs, and then they can rate it if they want to after playing it.
Like dskyle77 pointed out, we'll mostly be looking at the highest rated games in the jam, but we'll also be scanning through the other games in the jam as well.
So make sure your thumbnail, screenshots, and game page are all as nice as they can be. (That will attract the eye of judges and other participants.)
While editing your game page though, do not touch your game file, because you may accidentally disqualify yourself.
Some people will go around, offering to rate the games of other people, if those people rate their game. This exchange doesn't mention playing the game at all, it's just about getting more ratings on games. So a group of people could get dozens of fake ratings on their games in a very short amount of time and inflate their scores.
If you want people to rate your game, the best way to do it is to:
Play the games of other people, leave some helpful feedback and rate their game fairly, and then ask if they'll play your game.
That will result in a much more fair jam. 👍
