Okay, I'm silly, I was playing in EasyRPG which ironically made everything a lot harder. I started with the vanilla game as intended and had a great time. The last boss was a lot of fun

Hmm, I'll try to figure out what went wrong. Thanks

Beautiful writing and really thoughtful use of mechanics to represent an internal struggle. Thank you for sharing

Thanks so much, I'm really happy you enjoyed it! You solved the puzzle as intended, congrats (and good luck if you look for the other badges!)  I had planned some sort of fun Easter egg if you held onto the soap but ran out of time, dang it.

It's odd that you were able to encounter the multibeast that early, the global encounter rate should be 0 until the east bridge is clear. I just walked back and forth for awhile in the first area and couldn't reproduce it. Which version did you play?

It's been awhile since I've played such an unforgiving RPG, walking into the first cave and getting immediately clobbered gave me a nice nostalgic feeling lol. Nice level curve and sense of progress, every level up felt meaningful. I couldn't get past the Daisy fight at max level though 😔 I don't know if there's something I'm missing or if I just suck at ATB. Probably the latter, I always turn on "wait" in these kinds of games when I have the choice. Still, I enjoyed the journey.

My favorite so far. I aspire to this level of uninhibited weirdness, and the ending was touching in a way I never saw coming. I haven't defeated the orb yet but I believe in myself

Thank you so much for the kind words and for letting me know about the bugs! I'm sorry they affected your experience, I'm glad you still got something out of it after restarting. All of that stuff was definitely unintentional and should be addressed now in v1.1. I'm still working my way through all the entries but I'll give yours a play soon.

This took me a few tries cuz I kept getting stuck, but I enjoyed it once I realized there are plot flags. Nice little story and a cool way to tell it.

Thanks so much, I'm really happy you enjoyed it!

Ah that makes sense, thanks!

Hey, sorry for the late response, I was focused on finishing the game and I forgot how I got it to work. D'oh.

  1. Click the button in RM2k3 to generate the installer disk. Make sure you check the box that says to include the runtimes. This is what tripped me up the most, those runtimes aren't needed when you're using the desktop version but for whatever reason you need them for the web version.
  2. Extract the my-game.lzh or whatever file into a folder
  3. Optional: If you're going to include a custom soundfont, now's the time to do it. I find the default web soundfont doesn't work well with these tunes. Rename whatever soundfont you want to use to "easyrpg.soundfont" and put it in the main folder with all the RPG_RT.* files
  4. Put the gencache program in the same folder
  5. Run it. You should now have an index.json file alongside all your game files
  6. Rename the folder with all your game files "default"
  7. Copy the "default" folder into /player-js/games
  8. Copy the gencache program to the /player-js folder and run it again. You should now have a a folder with files that look like this:

And remember that the "games" folder contains the "default" folder from earlier.

Zip up the /player-js folder. This will be the zip file you upload to itch. Sorry if this is hard to understand, let me know if you have any questions

The python script worked perfectly, thanks so much!

This worked perfectly, thank you!

Has anyone had any luck getting music to work in Linux under Proton? I can't hear previews in the editor and no music seems to play during playtesting or the desktop version of EasyRPG. I'm guessing I just need to install something for MIDI support but I don't know what.

Also I tried following the instructions to set up the EasyRPG web player and I get stuck running the gencache tool they provide, it says I need GLIBC version 2.38. I'm on Debian 12, but it seems like even if I upgrade to 13, the latest supported version is still 2.36. Am I just hosed? I don't know why it needs a brand new C library to generate a JSON... Does anyone know if there's an older version of the gencache tool I can use?

Thanks!

Thank you!!

This seems like exactly the kind of roguelike I want to play, but is there a way to make the background black? Or at least a darker color? The bright brown makes it unplayable for me 😭

Got me "bricked up" (slang: excited). It's good because the number never goes down. Luxury clicker for refined tastes

This was lovely, thank you! Excited for the sequel!

The recommended way to signify a Tippler that's been promoted to Jester is with a colorful origami hat. You can find instructions for doing so here.

Made it to level 4 tonight, hoping to finish it up tomorrow. I'm really enjoying it, and it's quite unlike anything I've played before both in terms of world-building and mechanics. Learning how to smoothly transition between driving and shooting to kite the enemies around was really satisfying. The indirect control makes it feel a little like a real-time strategy game. I was never able to enjoy RTS games due to ADHD, so this is like an RTS built for me cuz I only have one unit to worry about 😁

I struggled a bit at the first boss, but the checkpoint was really friendly and I didn't get frustrated. Before long, I realized the pillars must be in that room for a reason, so I tried hiding behind them, which is when I discovered I don't need line-of-sight to shoot at my target. Getting revenge as the boss bounced helplessly against the pillar was very satisfying, and it was cool to organically discover this tactical depth. Learning how to incorporate the boost and flash abilities was also fun, and by the end (after some juggling practice) I was cancelling enemy bullets and circle-dashing around them like a pro. I'm a little intimidated by what I imagine the last level holds, but I look forward to finishing it and seeing what's in store for the characters. Extra big thanks for sending a version that'll run on my crappy old computer 🙏

It works! Playing it tonight, thank you :)

No prob, here's my DxDiag report, I think all the relevant info is in there https://bluelander.neocities.org/DxDiag.txt

If there's anything else that would help just let me know

There's a big gray box blocking most of the view for me :( The whole screen was gray until I tried turning the FOV up, once it was >70 I was able to see that it is in fact rendering something, but even at max I can't see enough to play. I had to use --rendering-driver opengl3  to get it to run at all. I figure the answer is "I need a new computer" but I wanted to let you know in case this is useful. Let me know if you want more info about my setup. (The opening cutscene ran smoothly.)

Thanks so much for the kind words and the great feedback! It always feels good to learn that something worked out as well as it did in my head

Great collection! Honored to be a part of it 💙🧡

Thanks!

Sorry if this is a silly question, but for platforms that support emoji (like Twine) do these count as graphics?

Thanks so much!

I loved this book. Thank you for writing it, and thanks for making community copies available. It makes taking a chance on unfamiliar work a lot easier, and I'm so glad I did. I paid it forward, and I'm looking forward to reading your other stories 🙏

Thanks so much!

This looks cool :) Do you have a palette file to use when playing in an emulator, or is there one you recommend? I'd like to play with the intended colors if possible

Edit: Never mind, my emulator doesn't pick up the palette information unless it's explicitly loaded as a gameboy color rom. I changed the extension to .gbc and it works as intended. Sorry for the confusion

If you have Java installed, you can just double-click Juego.jar to start the game or Creacion.jar to start the editor

Hi, I discovered MYA in the bundle for racial justice, just wanted to say this is a really cool project! The world needs a visual novel maker that's as easy to use as Twine, this has a lot of potential. Hope you're able to keep working on it!

Thank you!

Ah ok, apparently my archiver only supports LZMA2 for some reason. Very odd. Thanks for the help!

Hi, when I try to extract the zip file I get the error "unsupported compression method" on most of the files in the archive. Here's the full error log: https://paste.ee/p/eb09x

This looks adorable, but I get a bug in the Windows version. It says "Data folder not found - There should be 'FetchWIN1.0_Data' folder next to the executable" even though it's there. Hope you can get it sorted out!
