Comments stuck at “Awaiting moderator approval” — is this happening to others?

I don't know of any obvious cause, but seeing how many people are asking, maybe the spam filters were tightened up recently. If that's the case, making another account just to ask the same question isn't going to help, most likely. I'll let our admins know about your ticket.

the same thing is happening to me. i post my videos on Niven Hedinger's pages and he likes them so I dont know why Im having trouble sharing me enjoying his game with him. I comment at least once a day because I put out a video a day and want to share them with the makers of the games.

dude this problem has been happening to me for weeks now i have no clue what caused it either or how to fix it

(+1)

Well whatever is going it's a problem, we do NOT need our hands held on stuff like this.

(+2)

they should hurry up and resolve this issue as its apparently been going on for months

(+1)

Same problem here. I can post on devlogs, but the main page of games is a no-go. I tried messaging support and even updated with a further reply last week, but so far, support has maintained total silence.

I wonder if I can post comment here... Because every single comment I've been posting since month ago are still waiting to be approved. My game that isn't really a game but a test isn't showing anywhere either, even through the search bar

yeah some smooth brain in this thread is saying we aren't shadow banned though LMAO

NEWSFLASH I NEVER GOT NOTIFIED OF THIS IN ANYWAY

being told a moderator has to approve your post isn't the same as saying:

TOUGH TOES YOU'RE NOT GETTING ANY COMMENTS APPROVED.

That's what a shadow ban is. You dont tell the user or make it obvious they are blocked from functionality of the website.

For some reason itchio has shadow banned us all.

(+1)

Two of my guesses why would I be banned are:
1. I didn't have any activity on itch for more then a year and then I suddenly decided to post a game and make a few comments.
2. I'm russian, and also have to use vpn because itch is blocked here for god know reason.

yeah i dont know eitherway it was a bad decision.

they didn't give the page owners/developers of the game the option to approve comments

they flagged and are screening legit comments that developers are requesting; i was requested to share gameplay footage and cant post a youtube link

whats next?

Hmm, your first idea seems like a strong possibility too. I also stopped using itch.io for a long time before coming back and starting to use it again. That's when my comments on the main pages of games started getting stuck waiting for mod approval that never comes. It doesn't help that I messaged Support over a month ago, and it's been complete radio silence from them after the initial bot reply stating that they got my ticket.

Having same issues here. I was talking in two game communities, and now its locked me out of being able to post comments anywhere on game pages.

(+1)

And the moderators are taking their sweet time ignoring this issue

(+2)

this is 100% going to end up damaging the platform

essentially you guys have stopped very little spam and just actually shadow banned your community

(+1)

What do you think shadow banning is? And how do you know how little or how much spam was blocked by filters?

When I looked at feed I typically saw a few spammmers. Currently, I saw none. That's not a statistic, but it does feel a little less.

And shadow banning would be, if a commentor would see the comment, thinking everything is ok, but everyone else would not see the comment. Telling people that comments are held for moderation is the opposite of shadow banning.

(+1)

I see new spammers all the time, literally almost every day

(+1)

I hope it gets better. They need to come up with something. Other sites have to deal with such things too. There are bound to be solutions that could be applied by Itch.

yeah it actually hasn't gotten any better and is just fucking over the community for no reason

also im not here to argue the terms "shadow ban" with that other dude idgaf and that's completely irrelevant and he's wrong

I'm not banned but I mind as well be on other people's pages because the end result is the same.

Okay.... what in the heck? Some how when I click on my profile now in itch.io a pop-up comes up and says  this:

This link goes to a user-generated page on itch.io that is not associated with the creator of the current page. Don't trust any claims of newly updated content, it may be a scam.

https://itch.io/profile/redghost-5

Security Warning: Recently, scammers have been posting comments sharing fake update and download links. These links lead to malware. Official game updates are provided directly by the developer, never from external links in comments.

Uh Hello McFly, that is my profile that I CREATED myself. I'm not a modder or game creator of any sort nor do I re-upload mods or content to this site so what gives?

Moderator

That's a recent addition to help deal with the spam comments many creators complain about. For some reason it was added everywhere.

alright well im making a game and i guess im not buying assets through itch.io or posting my game here. i cant support this anymore. sorry to the 10+ itchio developers who emailed my team for us to play your games and make gameplay videos for them. we're not doing all that for free for in a dead community full of moderators that dont give a rat's end about us.

(+1)

Has nobody here seriously had their issue resolved after all this time? That's pretty annoying. I understand the holidays were recent, but its already February

(2 edits)

no one who can do anything is even PRETENDING to give a shit. it hasn't been addressed. mods are still active on social medias. the site is still making money.

I'm still having the same issue and it's been MONTHS now. Itch.io can someone fix the issue please!!

The moderators are just not allowing anyone to communicate with each other and they are blocking comments from even being read at all that's why multiple users are having the same problems.

(1 edit)

well then why do I see comments made on a mod page for FS25 all the time yet when I try to make a comment, it gets blocked? Yes I called out a user for being an absolute hypocrite in one instance. Is that a reason to shadow ban me from making a comment going forwards? Apparently these snow flake moderators think so and I am not talking about the moderator who made created this topic. This person clearly wants people to post opinions and have an honest discussion so my thanks to Lynette for this!
