Amazing aesthetics. You really nailed the Inscryption vibe, especially with those snappy camera movements. The scanned NPC models were a perfect choice. I liked the highlight effect for selecting items and fingers, although it was sometimes hard to see on NPC’s fingers, particularly their thumbs.

As others have said, the rules were confusing at first, although it did become intuitive eventually. I realize this would be a lot to do in 7 days, but it could benefit from some tutorialization. Perhaps a lesson from the dealer themself.

An input prompt for moving the camera would have been helpful. Also, I would have liked the camera to move over to the NPCs while they were taking their turns, or at least zoom in a bit. It was hard to see what was going on and that really added to the difficulty of understanding the rules.

In my oppinion, there’s two items that should be rarer (I might have just gotten very lucky). One is the sewing needle - it makes the game last longer than it feels like it should. The other is the eye hook - I feel it takes away from the suspense. Another option you might want to consider is giving the player a stock of items to start and not giving them any new ones later.

Lastly, I think the game needs something to ramp up the drama over time. Maybe a periodical “up the ante”. Not entirely sure how this would work though.

All that being said, this was one of my favorite entries in the jam so far. Really great job!

Thank you for appreciating our game and for the very insightful comment! Some of your suggestions are actually spot on, like zooming on the enemy when it's their turn, or a small prompt suggesting the possibility to move the camera. We can add those easily, maybe in the future when we have some time to spare. The idea of ramping up drama over time makes a lot of sense, that's another aspect deserving to be analyzed further. As you can imagine we just barely had time to figure out a working version of the game loop in 7 days, so we didnt even consider doing something more for the jam.  Thank you again for the feedbacks and suggestions <3

That was charming! I ended up winning, but losing almost all of my fingers. No more programming for me, I guess.

Very impressive work, both in terms of presentation and gameplay. I liked the atmosphere and an unusual visual shader, which made everything look a bit like claymation. Everything from font to meaty sound effects oozes style and atmosphere; the game is very aesthetically coherent. Very cool snappy camera movement, and good work on conveying all the information through the environment! I got some strong Inscryption vibes while playing, although the gameplay itself lacked a bit in drama, for my taste. I felt like it is always an optimal strategy to go safe, preserve as many fingers as you can for as long as you can, and just wait until the AI makes enough mistakes and loses all the fingers (this is how I won, anyway). Maybe the issue was in the overabundance of very powerful bonuses (ring of protection, especially felt like OP to me, since it essentially allows you to lose with no consequences).

Nevertheless, I still had a blast playing through your game! Thank you for sharing this experience :)

Thank you for playing the game! We agree that the game could benefit from some balancing and pacing changes, this is the version we were able to cook up in 7 days which in our opinion works. but there is so much room for improvement! Thank you for appreciating the aesthetics and the overall experience <3

Struggled with the rules but a cool game anyways! Good visuals and good sound design. Great submission overall

The visuals are a huge plus, the statues and overall presentation create a genuinely creepy and unsettling atmosphere.

The rules and concept are very interesting. The finger-staking mechanic is both clever and painful to watch, which fits perfectly with the tone. While the dice roll relies on RNG, that is part of the core design, and it works well because there is still strategy involved. You can choose to stake more fingers to win or prevent further loss, and that is where the items come into play, they can restore cut fingers, protect your own, peek at your opponent’s dice, or even break their fingers. Saving items for the right moment adds tension and tactical depth.

However, I did encounter a serious bug (I am sure you are aware of it as well). Sometimes after using an item, the game gets stuck in a state where the fingers are no longer clickable except for the lock, and this happened quite often. Unfortunately, it also occurred right when I was very close to beating the game. I completely understand the tight deadline of a game jam, and that there may not have been enough time to fix the bug in time, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Bug aside, overall, it is a fun and small game that leaves a strong impression. There is solid potential here. Nice work!

Incredible visually and really interesting concept. I also struggled a little to understand how to play at first, but I found it mysterious and fun to understand wtf was going on lol Love the setting and atmosphere.

I have to agree that it sometimes relies too much on RNG, and I'm usually super unlucky :( But I really appreciate the rules and the concept, truly well thought and really original take.

Congrats! Amazing submission

Thank you for playing the game and for trying to understand the rules <3

Okay. Start with the evidence, the game is reaaally pretty, love the vibe, love the ennemie's models (inspired by the "Bocca della Verità" maybe ?), love the sound design.

But like others in the comments, the rules was the problem for me. And yet i think i undertstand them. But I see two times on opponents loose a dice duel with me, and they never chopped his fingers. I'm so perplexe.

I would try the game again if a new version comes out, it really has potential.

Thank you for playing the game! The two enemies models are actually two small wooden statues that we 3D scanned and customized since we found them funny but also creepy. (you can find a photo below in our answer to the first comment!)

Regarding rules, we just updated the game with an improved tutorial, and also with some minor quality of life improvements. We would be happy to know what you think of the updated version!

Regarding your opponents not losing fingers, be mindful of the Shield Ring item, which protects a finger for one round. The opponents probably used that item to protect themselves! Nonetheless, we appreciate all the feedbacks and appreciations for the aesthetics and vibe! <3

Really cool game! I love the aesthetics and 3D models. The gameplay felt like a cool twist on Buckshot Roulette.  I was able to win but it took quite a bit of back and forth. If you are going to continue working on the game I think an animation speed toggle and an action log would go a long way.

Developer

Thank you for playing the game! We will definitely try to work on improving the game experience in the future, thank you for the precious feedbacks <3

Really nice game that reminds me Inscryption with Buckshot Roulette, the run is very long, I don't undertand why sometimes the ennemies take more than one shot on their fingers? Also, is it possible to win, I eliminated 1 of them but after I just had 1 or 2 scor at the dice? And what is the interest of the Hook? And the smasher?

Developer

Thank you for playing the game! We know that runs can be quite long right now, and we’re working on balancing this aspect. Still, victory is possible if you plan carefully and make smart use of your items!

The Hook lets you peek at an opponent’s dice, so you know exactly what score you need to beat. The Smasher is a more aggressive tool, you can use it to break an opponent’s finger, making it harder for them to top your score. We hope you’ll give the game another try and see how far you can go!

Must of had really bad luck, 95% of my rolls were 1-3 and one opponent never lost a finger.

Really cool game! I think the gameplay could be polished further, especially the communication with the player, as it was hard to understand what I had to do.

The models and the overall atmosphere is absolutely magnificent!!!

Took me few tries to get hang of it, and then a really long suffocating back and forth to win, but got the upper hand. Really neat game, like my only real nitpick is that it was super hard to get what was going on at first, even if I tried my best to actually read, but once you get into a 1v1 position it becomes lot easier to actually learn whats going on. I feel that the game is slightly too reliant on rng, BUT I suspect this is purely because I had to watch my only opponent get 3 threats and needles with 0 fingers cut, while I was there sitting with only 6 fingers. I did end up winning, and it felt good and fun, so; What do I know, the game feel works \o/ Ambience was nice and style really consistent with the vibe. (Also props for having an Unreal game which actually didn't set my GPU on fire.)

Great work on this! I can see this being developed further even, but works just perfectly like this.

Thank you for taking the time to understand the game, and for the awesome feedbacks! We are currently working on vastly improving the tutorial instructions and the overall clarity of the experience. We realize that a gradual introduction to the game rules would have been ideal, but unfortunately we had to rush that part toward the end of the jam, and it shows. We also considered going deeper into the randomization process of the items. As you said, right now the items are almost purely RNG, and there is no doubt that rethinking the item spawn process could benefit the game a lot.

Who knows, maybe we will develop the project further in the future, but we are very glad you enjoyed it even in its current state!

I think, i catch a bug, when leader candle go to the left guy. I can't press anywhere. By the way, love art style, atmosphere and horror easthetic. But need a better tutorial to undestand rules.

Submitted(+1)

really creative visuals, definitely love that style. gameplay is interesting but really hard to follow what to do, i also didnt know the tutorial paper was there until i ran into a bug where i couldnt choose a finger.

really great stuff, love the buckshot roulette inspo

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for the feedback! We agree that the gameplay can be a bit tricky to pick up at first. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to create a proper step-by-step tutorial, but we’ll definitely work on making the tutorial sheet more visible.

Really glad you enjoyed the inspiration and visual style! Inscryption was a huge influence for us too ;)
