How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
We had the idea of a dorky kid who finally asks out his crush, but then he has the worst day ever and everything goes wrong. Over development it morphed a bit but I think we kept the core idea going. :)

Awesome art and music, and pretty well polished overall. I liked the franticness of the mini-games, but resetting on game over was too harsh, especially for a jam. The comb game was confusing for me, too.

That said, I think this is an excellent entry overall. I particularly liked the controller connected effect on the main menu. Really nice work!

Really enjoyable collection of minigames I like how the minigames tied in the story too. Artwork was really good in this game too.

I really like the mini-game format y'all went with. I thought all of the games were approachable and I liked that some of the mini-game mechanics returned for some of the different scenarios. It might be worth considering allowing the player 2 chances (or maybe even three!) to fail during each mini-game round before losing the spiffy point. I needed to restart my game a few times when it came to understanding what the mini-game was asking of me when I encountered a new one when inevitably fail on the first try. Beautiful art and fun/quirky story here. Thanks for making and sharing it!

nice little collection of mini games. music is great, and the art is top notch
my only quibble would be that it is not very forgiving on the player (who at times is punished for having never played it before and being familiar with the mechanics - although in fairness this is appropriate for the gameboy era of video games!)

nice work

Thank you!

Exceedingly charming! Fun, cute, and frantic, with a decently action-packed soundtrack. Great work!

Thank you so much!

For me, this is the nicest kind of mini games I’ve seen here so far — even the story is great, and it looks fantastic!!!! First class!

Developer

Oh thank you! That’s high praise. <3

The art is FIRE!!! both music and visuals are really amazing. It is infuriating in the start when you miss smth and you have to restart. but game development wise it's fair.
Congrats on making such a polished great game!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words! ^_^

Very polished and impressive! I've heard it's a huge pain to make minigame compilations like this, so it's great to see one that's so well-made overall. The art is fantastic, fits the tone super well. Some of my favorite little touches were Joe getting hit by the title screen menu, the tray minigame having Joe suddenly be a stick figure, and of course the design of the bully. Lots of attention to detail, with little gags inserted at opportune moments.

There were a few minigames at the start that felt a little unclear. It took me like 5 tries to understand what was going on with "Tame that mane," and the detection seems to be above the comb rather than on the teeth of the comb where I'd expect. With catching the toothbrush, I was confused as to whether it was going to be an A button or D-pad game, and the button prompt comes in right at the end. My hand also missed the toothbrush despite it seeming like I grabbed it. There were quite a few minigames (particularly the ones with a hand coming in) where I wasn't sure if it was a D-Pad game, and it gave me a little trouble. But after those first few games, everything seemed really clear on the most part.

WarioWare does have the benefit of repeating minigames and increasing the pacing over time, leaning into high scores. It really helps them with that frantic, engaging non-stop action. I do think the pacing in this is very good overall, it doesn't need to be WarioWare, but I do think you could've gotten away with repeating a few more minigames with harder/faster versions and possibly some comedic new context. Like having to flick flies away from the flowers after falling into the sewer. But it's great overall.

Now we need a sequel with Pretty Patty where she faces similarly ridiculous scenarios on her way to the date.

Developer

Thank you for the detailed and thoughtful review! <3 I agree we need a sequel with Patty or a post-jam version at the very least haha.

I had a fantastic time, and I made it to the date! Really fun game with fun and quirky art, story and music along with interesting microgames. Its a very polished experience, great work!

Thank you!!

Very nice! I was able to beat it on the first try, but BARELLY.  I passed some task with less than a second!  I would suggest use more reflex and less button smash games though, but that is just a preference.  it was a nice game, and I had fun!

Developer

Thank you! The minigame variety bummed me out too, we had a huge list of ideas but had to cut a bunch for time. Thanks for playing though, and I’m glad you had fun!

I love these types of games, like WarioWare. The art style and sound are brilliant. I really enjoyed it. Great job!

Thank you! ^^

oh gosh, I really hate this genre of games so I had to take on me to be honest XD

  • Definitely frantic and sometimes unfair, but all the minigames are pretty well polished
  • I think it’s a bit too advanced to be possible as a GB game, like some stuff would have to be toned down, but there is definitely a mood!
  • btw filtering should have been optional, and there are clearly sub-pixel rendering - which is a shame, since the pixelart is really nice
  • Audio is great too!!

good job!!

now I’ll scream my frustration out into my pillow XD

Developer(+1)

Heh, sorry you had a rough time! <3

Submitted(+1)

nah it’s OK, you put lots of love inside this game so I had to try it XD

(+ maybe after a while I won’t hate this kind of games as much)

Love the overall aesthetics & soundtrack, and how you created the series of quicktime events like what Bishi Bashi has :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you! No one on the team was familiar with Bishi Bashi actually, so we have a new thing to check out! We took inspiration from Wario Ware.

I loved the art style for this game and the WarioWare-esque mini-game approach. You managed to incorporate the theme into each mini-game seamlessly. The fact they all built up towards the date was very inspired. I also appreciated the checkpoint near the end!

Developer

Thank you! Your comment makes me glad we put the checkpoints there haha

Sooooo cute!!! The art style is perfect. Loved it! <3

I thought this game had a lot of character and charm! I will say, the button that I usually associated with A is mapped to what I would associate with B, but once I got used to it, it wasn't so bad. The hair combing minigame got me several times, for some reason. Overall, though, really good job! I loved my time with the game.

Developer

Sorry about the button confusion. In retrospect I think I should have had people select a preset or bind controls on startup. Thank you for playing!

this hits on all fronts for me, super clean look and such expressive art. I like the wario-ware like games, they're all fun little surprises (find your outfit got an audible chuckle from me haha). very thankful too that the game is nice with the game over/checkpoints. all together it feels very polished! Oh, I also loved the music, very catchy little hooks and extremely gameboy core!

Developer

Thank you so much! I will pass your compliments on to the rest of the team <3

Super cute art style and tons of character throughout.

I only got a little confused on the very first mini-game when it wanted me to button-mash the "A-Button" and that button was mapped to the "B-Button" on my gamepad. Once I figured that out everything felt intuitive enough, which is a great sign for this style of game.

Developer(+1)

We really wanted to do brand-specific button prompts but I cut it for time! Sorry about the confusion, but thank you for the kind words!
