I AM INEVITABLE!
A downloadable game for Windows

!!! I AM INEVITABLE !!!
Fall. Ascend. Win.
GAME SUMMARY
A 3D platformer prototype where failure makes you stronger. Miss a jump, fall into the lava - you don't die, you ascend. Each ascension brings you back to the Resurrection Pool, bigger, faster, and with more traversability. The course that crushed you once will become a warmup. Speedrun-able (there are several routes to get to the end of the course, and you can get there without ascending! the only question is how fast and precise are you?).
Post a screenshot of your best time in the comments if you liked the game!
======================================================
GOAL
Reach the Altar at the end as fast as you can. Your time and ascension count show on the victory screen. Fast time, few ascensions = clean run. Lots of ascensions = you earned that power the hard way.
ASCENSION = POWER
First run: Small, slow, tight margins. You're gonna fall.
After a few ascensions: Noticeably faster, jumping further.
After 3 ascensions: Dash unlocks! Big gap coverage, but be careful not to overshoot.
After 4+ ascensions: Maxed out. The course will become trivial.
Once maxed, you can still fall - you just stop scaling. The game doesn't end until you touch the Altar. Timer keeps running. Get there fast!
======================================================
MOVES
Double jump (always available mid-air)
Wall bounce (double jump while jumping into a wall)
Dash (unlocks at 3 ascensions, NOT NECESSARY TO GET TO THE END)
======================================================
THEME: "Nah, I'd win."
Falling is inevitable. So is finishing the gauntlet. You're bound to the Resurrection Pool in an infinite loop until you reach the Altar. No failure. No game over. No way to lose. The only questions: how many times did you ascend, and how long did it take you to get to the Altar?

ABOUT THIS BUILD
This is a prototype/vertical slice. I've been experimenting with post-processing and materials to try to get a PSX/2000s retro console look in UE5 - that's the pixelization and visual style you'll see here.
The original vision/concept had combat. Enemies you'd struggle against early, just a few types, then bulldoze through as a semi-giant after a few ascensions. That power fantasy loop - fail, ascend, dominate - was the core idea. Time ran out, combat got cut, so this build is pure platforming. One course, one loop, but the foundation is here.
Speedrun it. See how you can use the movement system to speed up your routes. Find out how clean you can make it through on a quick run. Maybe someday there's more.

Solo dev. Programmer, not artist. Animations are stock, and models are mostly free 3D placeholder assets from Fab.
NOTE: This prototype was made from in ~20 planning and production hrs during a 48 hr Game Jam--a basic third person template was used, as well as placeholder 3D assets. Some audio effects are homemade, the rest are edited and/or chopped up CC0 .wavs from Freesound.org creators combined to make Sound Cues.

Windows SmartScreen/Firewall Notice
Because this is an indie build and not digitally code-signed (like Steam games), Windows may display a “Windows protected your PC” message the first time you run it.
If this appears:
-
Click “More info”
-
Then click “Run anyway”
This is normal for independently distributed Unreal Engine projects.

I had a lot of fun playing this game! The art style feels iconic, the gameplay perfectly captures the old-school "just one more play" vibes! Well done!
