[Q&A] Jeremiah Donaldson (Disturbance Timeline RPG: Merlin, Magick, & Mayhem)

Posted by saintnexan on March 7, 2026
Posted in: Q&A. Tagged: fantasy, gaming, rpg, ttrpg. Leave a comment

[1:02 PM]ephiroll: Hello, everyone. I’ve got this first bit prepared and I’ll post it in sections.

[1:02 PM]ephiroll: I’m Jeremiah ‘jerry’ Donaldson, a writer, game designer, editor, corporate slave, mini-farmer, and jack of all trades. I’ve without a doubt got more sales as a writer (my novel Plague reached #2 in science fiction on Amazon way back in like 2014), but I’ve actually been designing games for longer than I’ve been writing since we weren’t allowed D&D when I was a kid (80’s satanic panic) and we designed our own d6 games to play until we were allowed to have the Buck Rogers XXVc RPG in 1990. Today, I’m here to discuss and answer questions about Disturbance Timeline RPG: Merlin, Magick, & Mayhem, or DTRMMM. This is my third primary TTRPG title using my custom DTR system and the first that isn’t hard SF. The setting revolves around the real world volcanic disaster that started in approx 536 A.D., called the ‘Worst Year to Be Alive’ by some, the effects of which lasted ~100 years and were responsible for the 300 year gap in European history at the beginning of the Dark Ages.

[1:03 PM]ephiroll: In DTRMMM, the catastrophe is triggered by Merlin discovering the secrets of magick which cause a breakdown in the natural order and make ‘Breaches’ appear at random that connect to Earths in other dimensions. These Breaches allow other humanoids and creatures through, but also cause worldwide earthquakes and volcano activity. Merlin, after destroying the Knights of the Round table and taking over Camelot, sends his dark mages towards Rome with zombie hordes. As the first to learn how to cast spells on his Earth, Merlin also becomes a focus for the opposing magick energies and those casting certain spells are drawn to or repulsed from him. The DTRMMM TTRPG line currently includes the core rulebook and one setting module, with several more modules planned in the coming years. The modules will start off pretty standard for what you may expect for the setting, but then will track the whole thing forward in time and take a look at what society would look like with magick integrated into it at a fundamental level as opposed to its own system off to the side that only interacts at certain societal junctions. Here are the covers to the core rulebook and first expansion as well as a JPG version of the PC sheet.

[7:34 PM]Brad-TalesUntold: Hi, my name is Brad and I’m the designer and writer for Gilmoril: Technogothic Nightmare! I’ve been working on TTRPGs for about 6 years now and am preparing to release my first full scale project on backerkit this month. What is Gilmoril? Gilmoril: Technogothic Nightmare is a table top role-playing game designed for 1-6 players, combining the monster hunting, mystery, and aesthetics of The Witcher, Bloodborne and Horizon Zero Dawn, with a few twists of its own. It is about being an expert hunter of robotic creatures that take on the forms of mythological monsters. Each has a set of behaviours and motivations which are used to define what kind of monster it is. This in turn is used to determine how you can ultimately destroy them. You can download the Quickstart Guide, and all supporting materials freely here: https://www.talesuntoldrpg.com/free-pdfs/0ef92fc0-1b51-48fa-87e0-46400b85f94f You can find us on Backerkit to keep up to date with the project, here: https://www.backerkit.com/call_to_action/101a4779-8d87-4f40-ad67-54d89ed9aff3/landing Excited to answer any and all questions about the game, system, and setting. [1:04 PM]Jason Durall | Chaosium Inc.: I had a 17-year stint in the MMO industry but went fulltime as a tabletop game designer, though I continue to consult for MMOs and mobile games. [1:01 PM]Viktor Oktobar: Hello! Name’s Nina (Viktor is a security blanket), I come from a theatre background, with a BA in Dramaturgy, Screenwriting, and Playwriting. I’ve been professionally in video gaming since 2016, and after many a heartbreak, I’ve been pushing solo since 2019, working on personal projects, mostly TTRPGs. Love playing TTRPGs. I also love everything spooky and strange. And that leads us to why we’re here! Carnage on Cape Cod, the project I started on my own in 2019. It is a horror book set, featuring an interactive Solo TTRPG novel and a classic adventure adaptation that you can run for your friends after experiencing it on your own.

[1:01 PM]Viktor Oktobar: done!

[1:02 PM]Fetfreak: Hi! I’m Bora (Fetfreak, as some of you may know is because I had aspirations to be a hacker when I was 11) I’m a self taught artist and I’m painting the Carnage on Cape Cod. I also helped with the game’s system, layout and design. done!

[1:02 PM]Viktor Oktobar: We are also partners for almost 21 years now. And we’ve been playing TTRPGs together for all that time ❤️
