One reason for messages to be on the suppression list is too many soft fails. I can't remember if there are others, don't think I've seen them personally. The total number of soft fails before a message is hard failed can be customised in the main config (or environment variable) Lines 12 to 13 in d532922
Further to the two you found, there is also the ability to hold all messages from a particular credential so that it can't be used but the messages are trapped. |

interesting, I didn't know an email could immediately go to hard fail, what was the log message for that? |

Ah of course a 5xx error code is a hard fail but so many providers use 4xx error codes so that creates the retry loop. It looks like the code does try to add them to the suppression list immediately but perhaps things happen in a funny order and second, separate email to that address would add them to the list maybe? postal/app/lib/message_dequeuer/outgoing_message_processor.rb Lines 148 to 166 in d532922 |
