Multi Cursor disable broken #2663

@kogelnik

Description

@kogelnik

Using the MultiCursor widget, once it is turned on, there does not appear to be a way to de-activate it, other than deleting the widget. Not sure if this is the design intent, but this seems broken.

matplotlib 1.3

Example from the docs, but added multiple attempts to disable the cursor, none of which worked.

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
from matplotlib.widgets import MultiCursor
import numpy as np

t = np.arange(0.0, 2.0, 0.01)
s1 = np.sin(2*np.pi*t)
s2 = np.sin(4*np.pi*t)
fig = plt.figure()
ax1 = fig.add_subplot(211)
ax1.plot(t, s1)

ax2 = fig.add_subplot(212, sharex=ax1)
ax2.plot(t, s2)

cursor = MultiCursor(
    fig.canvas, (ax1, ax2), color='r', lw=1, horizOn=True, vertOn=True)

# none of this attempts turn off the cursor

cursor.active = False # this works for the Cursor widget, but not here
cursor.drawon = False
cursor.eventson = False
cursor.clear('motion_notify_event')

plt.show()
