A downloadable game for Windows

Void Magic is a short, minimal FPS built for Mikulu's EFPSE minimalist Jam.

I limited myself to only 3 colours, a single map, very lo-res sprites and a limited arsenal, but still wanted to try to push some boundaries in the EFPSE engine that the game is built in, with flying enemies, boss fights, and some other neat tricks.

I've really enjoyed making this thing, and I'll likely try and flesh it out into a more complete project. I had a lot of other neat ideas that I just ran out of time to do.

Game is standard WASD/Mouse controls.

The save system is based on finding 'remembering stones'. Once you have a save you can talk to the red outline stone at the start to load it (even from a New Game)

I hope you enjoy exploring the little world as much as I did making it.

In testing it has had some crashes, that I haven't had the time to fix for the end of the jam. The save points are frequent though, so it shouldn't be too bad if it does.

Thanks for taking the time to check it out!

Why does Windows antivirus react so strongly to this game and prevent it from being installed? I've never had such problems with games on EFPSE

I wish I knew. Windows anti-virus reacted that way to every game in the Jam for me. Win11 is bonkers, they wanna force you into the windows store, so they flag everything that isn't from a 'known' publisher as 'dangerous'.

However, I liked your game so much that I didn't listen to the antivirus. And I don't regret it. It's a truly great demo. It has so many features I hadn't seen before at EFPSE. I think you're definitely the winner of this jam, and I hope there's more to come. I really want to see more of it

Andreja here from PrintN'Play. Hey pal :)

Reached final boss, loved the respawn mechanic and I tought I could quit the game and then I had to play it from the beginning, so maybe the classic save/load game can still be there as an additional thing apart from your awesome respawn at last face-pillar spot.

Overall, you did an amazing job as was expected from an EFPSE legend like you :) I loved the atmosphere and the level design, which was quite unique. That backtrack with the red waterfall hit the spot. I know this was a game jam game so I will keep advice at a minimum because you probably know it, but UI could use some further readiblity like adding some more black background behind the heart and the health nums, same with jetpack bar, some nice art around the bar would be awesome to further contribute the theme. All of that could go in one background image and it would look lovely.

What I learned from this is how you did the spawn deco with the altattack, I will shamelessly steal this idea from you for sure :) I did something simmilar with my boss that spawns both enemies and decos that do damage :)

Additionaly a fine touch was when hp is low that red vignette in the edges of the screen symbolizing that you will die soon, loved that classic FPS detail :)

I hope to see more games from you like these. You don't have to wait for another game jam to do them ;)

Respect!

yooo, thank you for the long feedback, it's much appreciated.
You can actually load a game if you quit out.
You just go to new game and then when you arrive in the level, talk to the red remembering stone.
I had real issues with load/save but will make that clearer in a later build.
Thank you for playing it, and for taking the time to write comprehensive feedback :) I'm glad it inspired you, and do go ahead and steal the ideas! If you need help with implementation, hit me up

Will do! Thanks man!

Hi! I am very much not very good at this kind of game but everything plays very fluidly and it's very fun to figure out the attack pattern of each enemy. I did run into an issue where whenever I interacted with one of the save point stones my game would crash for about 30 seconds. That might be my computer but I figured it was something worth telling the developer. Very fun game though!

ooooh that is interesting, I don't know why! Did you remap the controls at all?

I did not, no
