When the Empress dies without issue, you play as the youngest out of four possible successors to the throne.
Civil war is on the horizon. The other successors will stake their claim- but you’re the one who’s in possession of the Imperial Signet Ring, the sole symbol of the Sovereign’s authority and a relic of great mystery.
Choose your loyalties. Build relationships- or don’t. Tear them apart. Sabotage your rivals and pave the path to the throne for yourself. The choice is yours to make.
There are no right or wrong choices- only consequences.
✦ Choose the heir you wish to be, customize your name, gender, sex, sexual orientation and appearance.
✦ Choose between one of three backgrounds: Warfare (Soldier), Academic (Scholar) or Politics (Diplomat)
✦ Align yourself: Follow the code of law or follow your own. Decide the future- the Empire you wish to see and the ruler that sits at the top.
✦ Build or break your relationship with your older brothers. Help them realize their goals- or don’t. There is no way to make everyone happy
✦ Romance one of four love interests(and maybe a few secret controversial one(s))…or pine for unrequited love.
Duke Alberich Nibel Vagnyr | He/him | 26 | Male
Alberich is your eldest brother, who raised you after the death of your parents. He's an astute and charming politician. You love each other dearly. Despite knowing him all your life, you can never tell where his true ambitions and intentions lie.
Sir Sieghardt Nibel Vagnyr | He/him | 25 | Male
Sieghardt is your second brother and Captain of the Nibelhiem Heath Knights. Unlike Alberich, Sieghardt is a like ghost, often occupying the shadows in your memory. He’s a quiet and stoic person, but is loyal to your brother Alberich above all else. There is a weight he carries with him that no one knows.
Eirik Nibel Neaera | He/Him | 23 | Male
Eirik is your only cousin, the son of your Father's twin brother. He still holds your family responsible for the death of his father and will do anything to avenge him. He's arrogant and hot-headed, but he's also resourceful. Despite being a jerk, he inspires great loyalty in the people who follow him.
Sir Griffin (Finn) Brynhildr | He/him | 19 | Male
A young boy from your childhood. He was a good friend- maybe even your first love, but you two have drifted apart over the years. Now he's a Nibelhiem Heath Knight and heir to a Great House. His passion is second to none and charges into every situation with enthusiastic sincerity- sometimes to his own disadvantage. He hates Sieghardt with every fibre of his being.
Lady Linnet Brynhildr | She/Her | 24 | Female
Linnet is Finn's older sister and childhood friend of your older brothers. She's a part of the renowned Shield Maidens and harbors a flame for Sieghardt, but due to her family's ambitions, nothing becomes of it. Above all else, she wishes to serve her country and fulfill her duties- but must it come at the cost of her own happiness?
Prince Thea ana' Isadora Brigid | She/her | 18 | Female
A young Prince from the neighboring country of Brigid. Thea is one of seven children in line for the throne. She was a good friend and pen pal- maybe even your first love, but she stopped answering your letters one day. Her short stature and demure demeanor causes most people to underestimate her crafty nature.
Medea | She/Her | ??? | Female
The Wizard Rothbart's assistant. She's a woman of many questions and little answers. A flirtatious and beautiful woman, who is easy to like, but hard to trust. There’s something about her sincerity that makes you uneasy. Her smiles never truly meet her eyes.
Helios | He/They | ??? | ???
Helios is a great sorcerer of unknown origins with great knowledge of the occult and the Wastes. Aside from that, no one knows who the fuck this person is.

Is the game dead for good or do you just have writers block again?
is this still receiving updates?? I see it has been updated from september and I'm just curious if its on pause till next year because of the holidays, or if this was dropped.

I wouldn't worry yet given the last update before September was in June. Update could just be taking awhile I would not start to worry till February
I would say it’s okay to start worrying a little. Just looking back at the releases of the content updates it’s usually a 2-3 month wait between each. That being said, I think giving the creator the benefit of the doubt would be better cause of Christmas potentially messing up the work schedule, and the next content update potentially being bigger than previous ones due to it being worked on for longer.
adding in my own thoughts. i did a little looking and the author's had as long as a 10-month break before. while the patreon isn't getting updates, i don't doubt that she's still working on the story cus she's been reliable with it so far. ^^

I adore how you handled this story. Allowing us to live through the MC's life from the beginning but not too far. I legitimately wanted to go through their life a bit more but the sudden shift seemed fitting to allow the chance to slowly reveal things. I knew the plot already, it's there in the dang summary, but I was still very much heartbroken at the Empress' death like... DAMN. I got so attached to her. ; w ;
I'm so curious on where this will go and how it will go. There's so many questions left unanswered!
I love the brothers and I adore Thea and even little Griffin. Medea was certainly a fun little addition. The bro's reaction when you flirt with her is amusing haha! Gosh I want more interactions with them. I can't wait for more chapters!
This is an incredible story so far, and I look forward to more, but I'm also rather confused. The prelude is an absolute masterpiece but feels unfinished. Then the present story starts and it's such an abrupt change in writing style, it's repeating things we already knew. Is the story being rewritten starting wit hthe prelude?
The story is great and I want to know more, don't get me wrong, but the stunning writing in the prelude launched this IF right into the top 10s for me, but then changes so suddenly?

I just finished the till the recent update and I'm absolutely hooked. The way you've constructed the narrative is so clever and engaging. It feels like a genuine, collaborative storytelling experience. This is the kind of game I've been waiting for, and I can't wait to see what you have in store for us next
This is a weird one for me. The prologue is very well written, so it was jarring when I got to chapter one and found so many rather obvious mistakes all over the place. Nothing too so egregious as to keep me from reading but still a bit surprising given how well put together the prologue is. I'm unsure if there just hasn't been an editing pass yet, or if the prologue is older so its had more time for community editing, but either way I do love the story and hope the few parts of CH1 we have so far get the second pass they need.

If u don't choose that route, then when ur with ur friends at the festival, there are routes A-C on who to hang out with.
I haven't played yet, but I am wondering if MC is the 4th child why there is no comments about the 3rd child on this page? is it part of the plot?
The MC is 4th in line, but the 3rd child in their immediate family. There is a cousin that comes before the MC in inheriting the throne.
Inheriting goes eldest to youngest:
Alberich (brother)<< Sieghardt (brother)<< Eirik (cousin)<< MC (youngest sibling)

just checking, does the demo end at the inn after arriving in the town? cant move forward from there after choosing a horse and shopping at the general store
did you return to the inn? After you open your bag there, Sieg is supposed to wake up!

I just ran into the same issue. It seems like buying specifically the rations from the store was what got him to wake up, none of the other items would do it (so, you get stuck if you buy the axe/rope and don't have enough money left for the rations)

The Author answered this on her tumblr :3 It's a gender neutral term in Thea's country. All legitimate children of the King are given the title of Prince.

I just wanted to say that I found this game to be really good. Like really good. The story and characters were intriguing and I was got so invested into the game that I didn’t realize that it was rather short. I hope you continue to do your best on this wonderful game. Also Thea is the best character in this game and I cannot wait for more chapters to come out so I can see more of the romance.
I loved everything about this game, from the captivating story that grabbed me from the beginning until the end and the characters! I'm so excited for more updates and for the game to be complete! My plan was to become the official crown prince so I got the demo of ending D first, I completely forgot that it said in the bio that the empress died lol. I was really immersed.
Absolutely love everything about this game!! All the characters are so interesting and the story has me on the edge of my seat! Seriously though if I was the MC i would be frustrated with how vague everyone can be whenever we ask questions (like I understand why no one gives us straight answers but it still must suck being treated like a child unable to handle the truth)
Honestly amazing story, can't wait to see more of Thea in the future tbh and see how that will go.
This is one of the most captivating stories I've ever read. The characters are so diverse and fleshed out it makes every scene so immersive. I really enjoy the character customisation and the relationship dynamics with every character. I think about this game on a daily basis. This is my new bread and butter.

I tried to load a save from previous version, but its not working. Is this browser problem?
Hi Theman, do you know how far back that previous save goes? The game is in the process of a rewrite, so saves from an early build will not work.
But also there has been an update to Twine's save systems so if you saved your games individually or as a bundle, you have import the save from one of the two options.
I think it was 1 version before this. It didn't affect my playthrough that much- I'm just worried about if it will be like this for every new update/version.
You should be fine then! I forget if the public version before this one included the Sugarcube/Twine update, but if the file name is something like "saves-export-The Sovereigns Ring_D_(62925) PUBLIC-20250725-111924" then you will have to import the save file. If it's something like "The Sovereigns Ring_D_(62925) PUBLIC-20250725-111955" then you will have to load it.
Going forward, this shouldn't be a reccuring issue unless your on mobile (like ios) , where some browsers will wipe the cookies where the saves are stored. If so, you will have to download and import your save file after each play session. I wish there was some work around that, but there isn't at the moment. :/

Sorry there’s no plan for an Renpy version of the game until this is complete. It’s a whole new engine to learn and I am unfamiliar with.
And English is my first and only language that I can read and write so other translations would have to be done by volunteers.

Hello there, I really want to play this game, however for some reason on my phone the game is horizontal with most of the screen covered, which not only makes it hard to read but also makes it impossible to import and export saves for me. Is there some way for me to switch from horizontal mode to vertical?
Hi Zina, sorry to hear you are having trouble! The game should auto adjust to whatever orientation your phone is, but i've changed the default to vertical on Itch.io so it should be working. (I tested this on a iphone 12)
As for exporting/importing saves. What browser are you using? Some browsers have stricter security and privacy protections that messes up with exporting saves. (Like Brave for example) I've tested and found no issue on Opera, Google Chrome, and Safari, but did come across the issue on Brave. I was able to fix it by updated to the latest version of the broswer. If you are still having trouble, you may have to turn off any adblock and/or firewall sheilds and reload the page. It should work after that.

It is working now. Thank you very much. And as for the saves that too was a problem caused by the ui. For some reason the import/export saves options were off screen. But now it's fine.

I made some concept art for Daria/Darius a while back here! I’m in the process of making new portraits for everyone so Daria/Darius will be included when I finish the new batch. (At the moment only Daria is done, you can find her artwork in her tag on the blog) They are hidden RO so they will have more requirements for their specific route.

And does them being the half sibling of our cousin make them one of the ‘controversial’ ones or am I wrong about that? And will it be mentioned in the story, or is it the fact they’re the ‘bastard child’?
Not a lot is set in stone yet, since I haven't programmed anything yet, but for what I have envisioned, to access Daria/Darius full route, you will have to have high enough affection and may a few key choices during the playthrough.
Eirik is controversial because of who and what he is. Daria/Darius is not (aside from being Eirik's loyal supporter). But being a bastard will be a problem for the relationship depending on your characters plans.
