Back again in the Cosmic Horror Jam, third edition!
We had a blast making a monster-packed arcade game in just one week. This jam is our favorite! It’s always awesome to meet new people and using Godot to mix 3D models in a 2D world was a breeze. Great experience 💖💖💖
Our project has been selected to be part of the EVA PLAY 2024 catalog. EVA is Argentina’s largest video game event, where figures from all over the world come to learn about the Argentine industry
After creating a mini-game for a job application, I decided to tweak the environment to create a timeline of how the environment lighting works throughout an entire day, using a fire-based contrast. I’m really impressed with how much Unreal Engine 5 has advanced compared to version 4. Thankfully, I have an RTX 4060, otherwise I’d be toast
The jam serves as a platform for game developers to connect with their cultural roots and create unique gaming experiences that reflect the rich tapestry of Argentina traditions. “Acción DEV” is a collective of game developers dedicated to fostering the growth of the Argentina game development scene and promoting the creation of games that are culturally relevant and meaningful. By organizing game jams like this one, “Acción DEV” provides opportunities for developers to collaborate, learn from each other, and contribute to the preservation and celebration of Argentina heritage.
I’ve been testing the new features in Godot 4.3 and I must say, if I had more time I’d be 100% dedicated to creating a shooter. Here are some tests I’ve been doing with a bit of a vaporwave vibe
Viajantes (Travelers) is an interactive adventure where a cosmic being navigates an ocean of memories, seeking to recover fragments of their past to ‘remember’ their own identity.
The narrative unfolds as the character gathers, collects, and arranges physical representations of a story (written on paper, stones, or various elements). With these elements, players can solve puzzles and construct the levels through which Travelers journeys.
Mysterious clues, left by other facets of the protagonist, provide key hints that describe events from their personal history. These ideas revolve particularly around different decisions that shaped their identity and how they constructed their perception of their own gender
The classic story: they lied on their resume, claimed to know how to fly UFOs, and now they’re sitting in front of unfamiliar controls with a boss demanding they abduct a COW. It won’t be easy; their nerves make it feel like the controls change with every playthrough.
OVNI VACA was a game developed in a “one-termo jam” format: making a game in the time it takes for a mate thermos to cool down. The base was made in just 2 hours. It was developed during Tucuman Hace Videojuegos, for the Godot Wild Gamejam, with the theme “Unintended Consequences”.
Speaking a bit more about my experience as a university professor:
Beyond the University and the Image Campus (Private Institute), the Buenos Aires provincial government hired me to teach introductory video game programming through YouTube. It was a delightful experience, and we received incredible feedback
Poin'n'Salary is a old-school graphic adventure, with a high political and humorous content, a mix of Lucasarts and local slang.
Your mission is simple: go to Plaza 9 de Julio in the city of Posadas, starting from the populous neighborhood of Itaembé Guazú, on the outskirts of the provincial capital. To do this, you must visit typical neighborhood landmarks and interact with delirious figures from Misiones and Argentine popular culture. In between, jokes, South American political humor, absurdity, and more or less assembled puzzles.
Like any graphic adventure, you have two interactions, with left click and right click, use them wisely!
I turned this broken PS1 into a retro mini PC for fun some time ago. It worked perfectly for playing the Twin Peaks demo by blueroseteamtp on a CRT. I really recommend it; the demo is excellent and is free in itchiogames . If you want the code or the 3D pieces, let me know. The ghostly Laura Palmer figurine from season 3 was made by kuato_toys
Burnout Simulator 98 is a game where the slower you work, the easier it is for you to ‘burn out’ and be replaced by an AI. You’ll have to survive the 5 working days of the week.
Each day, you’ll receive a stack of delirious problems that will play with your psyche and try to defeat you.
To reduce that burnout and keep your job, you have the opportunity to perform tasks and receive lucky cards that decrease your stress level.
The more cards and tasks you complete, and if you can also eliminate errors in your daily work, you can become the winner of the game
I want to show you a bit of the work I’ve been doing for the students of the Introduction to Video Game Programming course at National University of Quilmes. In this project, I took on the task of composing the music and mastering some ambient audio effects, in addition to collaborating on programming in #godotengine with the other professors.
“Buenos Aires Horror” is an audiovisual project created to convey a survival experience in a chaotic world filled with specters. The game incorporates top-down exploration mechanics with elements of visual novels. It is set in a dystopian Buenos Aires where night has become eternal, and you must journey through the province to survive. This is complemented by photographs and music created to give it a “mysterious” touch. Feel free to give it a try and let us know how you died :)
Alright, I’d like to show you my first map created in Unreal Engine, which is an abandoned beach hut that took me about 2 hours to make. I think, for my first level, it turned out quite well. Everything looks great in UE4 until you realize that just the sand weighs 11 gb!! 😰😰
